Betty Ann Riess

Betty Ann Riess, 89 Passed away peacefully on October 30, 2019. Beloved Wife and Mother born in St Louis, Missouri.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Girard “Jerry” Riess; also by her brother William and Sister Ruth and brother in law Delmar “Bud” Riess.

Betty and Jerry married in 1950 and moved to Houston, Texas in 1956, where they were founding members of St Augustine Catholic Church. A devoted parishioner serving in the Family Guild and Women’s Guild as well as numerous other parish events and bazaars.

She retired from Union Carbide after 20 years. She was a talented seamstress and sewed many matching outfits for her family and stoles and vestments for St Augustine clergy as well. During retirement she enjoyed travel, gardening and quilting, gracing a number of family members with her beautiful hand sewn quilts. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America; founding member of the neighborhood bridge club (formed nearly 60 years ago), as well as a member of multiple other bridge clubs where lifelong treasured friends gathered to celebrate the frequent Grand Slam.

Survived by her five sons and daughter, and their spouses: Rick and Theresa; Danny and Karen; David and Maria; Billy and Lori; Gary and Tammy and Mary Beth and Howard. Loving Sister: Jane Riess and sister in law Louise; and numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as “Gramma Betty” 18 Grandchildren; 27 Great-Grandchildren and one on the way and a host of loving relatives and wonderful friends.

Visitation is at 6pm; Vigil and Rosary at 7pm, Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5560 Laurel Creek, Houston, Texas. Interment immediately following the Mass at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster Texas.

My sincerest condolences to the Reiss family. I grew up next door and then later in life, across the street from them. She never let anything slow her down! Such a sweet lady.
