Byron Ovelle Bucy died on September 11, 2011 at the Caring Hands Hospice Center in Porter, Texas. Byron was born on December 17, 1923 to John Guy Bucy and Ruth Myrtle Smith Bucy in Rector, Arkansas. He had two brother’s Everett Milburn Bucy and Jesse Bucy. He graduated from Rector High School. He grew up riding horses and helped his father and uncle sell mules at the Bucy Mule Barn. When World War II broke out he enlisted in the Navy where he served in the Pacific on an ammunition supply ship. When he returned from the war he met and married Jane Elizabeth Holifield on May 23, 1948 in Rector. There he was a farmer and they raised three children Janis Carol Tomlinson, Danny Byron Bucy and Patricia Jo Clegg. When he was 46 years old he began working construction as a Millwright. Because of his experience working on farm equipment he had strong mechanical skills and began as a full Millwright. He grew up in the depression era and had a tremendous work ethic. He often counseled his children and grandchildren on doing the best you could at whatever you did.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church in La Porte, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jane Holifield Bucy, father John Guy Bucy and mother Ruth Myrtle Bucy as well as his brother Everett Bucy. He is survived by his brother Jesse Bucy and his children Janis Carol Tomlinson, Danny Byron Bucy, and Patricia Jo Clegg as well as by his grandchildren Jeremy May, Ronda Allee, Rebecca Clegg Busby, Patrick Clegg, and Samuel Clegg and great grandchildren Daniel Austin May, Tristan Allee, Maci Allee, and Jaxson Allee.
