Carole was born on October 13, 1939, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, to Omer and Zelma Helm. A graduate of Kittanning High School, Carole first dedicated herself to raising her family. Looking back, it is clear that being a mother was her greatest calling, and she excelled at it. Once her children were older, she returned to school and fulfilled another dream by becoming a LVN, graduating in 1978.
Nursing was much more than a career to Carole — it was an extension of her love and care. She found genuine joy in caring for others. She served patients in the Pasadena, Texas area before joining the neonatal unit at Mid Jefferson Hospital in Nederland, Texas. Later, after moving to the Detroit, Michigan area, she continued her nursing career, working alongside a rheumatologist. Even after retirement, her desire to care for others never faded, and she returned for a time as a volunteer nurse.
On December 26, 1958, Carole married the love of her life, Charles "Jim" James Boyher, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. Together they built a life of faith, family, and adventure. Jim's career led them to homes in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Michigan. Along the way they raised three sons and one daughter, creating a lifetime of memories wherever they lived.
Following Jim's passing in 1989, Carole was blessed to find companionship once again. She later married Dave Verba on August 6, 1994. Together they shared many years, and Dave remained an important part of her life and family.
Carole found great joy in traveling. She enjoyed exploring the United States and Europe, but no destination ever meant more to her than wherever her family was gathered.
Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was the greatest joy of her life. Nothing brought a brighter smile to her face than watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and celebrating each milestone in their lives.
If her life could be summed up in a single sentence, it would be this: Carole loved her family. Whether caring for a patient, comforting a friend, or embracing one of her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, she gave herself completely to those she loved. Her legacy is not only found in the lives she touched as a nurse but in the family she nurtured, loved, and inspired for generations.
Carole faced adversity throughout her life, but her faith in Jesus Christ was its steadfast foundation, providing strength, hope, and a quiet confidence that sustained her through every trial.
Carole was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sandra Jean Boyher; her parents, Omer and Zelma Helm; her first husband, Charles "Jim" James Boyher; her beloved sister, Patricia Patcyk; and her second husband, Dave Verba.
She is survived by her three sons, Tim Boyher (Donna), Andrew Boyher (Lea), and Mark Boyher (Leslie);
her grandchildren, Allison Jones and Brandon Boyher (Natalie); her cherished great-granddaughters, Brianna, Bella, Annie, Phe, and Lenora, all of whom brought her immense joy; her brothers, Tom Helm (Kristi) and Kevin Helm (Marilyn); her sister, Nancy Bartoe (Sherb); and her brother-in-law, Babe Patcyk.
Although our hearts are saddened by her passing, we rejoice knowing she is now in the presence of her Lord and reunited with those she loved.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
