Carolyn Ann Pillow (née Stancill), 83, a long-time resident of Deer Park, Texas for 55 years, passed away peacefully in Foley, Alabama after a long illness on September 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 29, 1941, in Washington, D.C.
In retirement, Carolyn enjoyed splitting her time between Deer Park, Texas, Foley, Alabama, and Maui, Hawaii. She is survived by her children, David Pillow and his wife, Amy, of Maui, Hawaii; Christa Park and her husband, Brodon, of Foley, Alabama; and James Pillow of Richmond, Texas. She was a cherished sister to Donna Mullins of Arlington, Virginia, and Rex Stancill of Goldsboro, North Carolina. Carolyn was a beloved grandmother to seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Carolyn also shared a special bond with her sister-in-law, Carolyn Pillow of Baytown, Texas, with whom she spoke daily, enriching each other’s lives with enduring companionship and support.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Pillow, and her brother, Ralph Stancill.
After graduating from high school in Arlington, Virginia, Carolyn worked for the Justice Department before marrying the love of her life, Douglas Pillow affectionately known as “her soldier”, in 1963. The couple moved from Virginia to Texas where Carolyn began her career at NASA as an administrative assistant to the flight engineers during the Apollo program. She later devoted several years as a stay-at-home mom before embarking on a 25-year career with DuPont Chemical. Carolyn dedicated herself to sharing her faith, uplifting everyone she met, and doting on her family in her later years.
Carolyn gave her life to Christ at age 10, which became the cornerstone of her life. Her favorite verses were John 3:16 and Psalms 118:24, and she constantly reminded us to "rejoice and be glad every day." She also taught us to extend grace to those around us, as we never know what they are going through. Carolyn loved hearing others' stories, sharing her own, and she never met a stranger. She was a long-time member of South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas.
The family asks if you will be attendance to wear purple in memory of Carolyn.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 14th at Grandview Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas, with a viewing at 10:00 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in Carolyn’s memory.
