Dan M. French, 87, long time resident of Deer Park, Texas, passed away Saturday, August 27th, 2022 in Atlanta, Texas. Dan, the oldest of 4 children was born on October 25th, 1934 in Gallatin, TX. to Marcus and Avis French.
Dan began working during the summer months as a pipeliner at the age of 14. When he graduated high school, he decided to give football a try and quit pipelining for a short time. He then realized he wasn’t the correct size to play and returned to pipelining. As he traveled to different states, he met his wife Marilue and they were married shortly after on June 6th, 1955. They continued traveling with his work until they were expecting their first child. They chose to settle in Deer Park, TX. where they had their 3 children and built their life together.
Dan began work at Rohm and Haas, where he worked and retired at the age of 62 after 40 years of service. One of his favorite ways to spend his time was reading late into the night, sitting in his special chair at his desk with a lamp, beer and snacks. He also loved playing cards on Friday nights with his guy friends and going on occasional weekends to visit the Isle of Capri in Lake Charles with his wife Marilue.
He spent many a day with his grandchildren at his camp house, sharing with them his favorite things. He would sit out on the dock for hours, telling them of the different constellations and many species of birds. He shared his love for reading and took them on boat rides on the lake, fishing with them and just giving them the most important gift of all, his time and love. He and Marilue never failed to be there for whatever their grandchildren needed, be it material need or a warm meal. But it’s the many hours and days spent with them, the gift of their time that will be the most cherished memory.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilue, parents Marcus & Avis French, his daughter Vicki Sherry, his son Russell French and great grandchild Waylon Smith. He is survived by his son Steven and wife Loretta, Brother Buster and wife Billie. His sisters, Patsy Reichl and husband Gerald, Connie Conrad and husband Dennis. Also 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
