David Stanley Warnell

David Stanley Warnell, Jr., 81, of Friendswood, Texas was born on February 20, 1940 in Longview, Texas to parents David and Shirley. David was the youngest of three children with older sisters, Gloria and Linda. David attended Galena Park High School and received his BS Degree in Business Commerce at Texas Christian University. TCU heavily recruited David and he was awarded a 4-year scholarship in basketball. During this time, he was ranked in the top 60 of the nation as a forward.

While at TCU, David met, and later married, his sweetheart Shirley Buller in 1963. As a result of this union, Natalie Warnell Cherry, an only child, was born in April, 1964. While the marriage didn’t last, the relationship between David and Shirley survived and neither one remarried, remaining close through the rest of his life.

David is preceded in death by his father, mother, both sisters and a beloved niece. He is survived by his ex-wife Shirley, daughter Natalie and two grandchildren, Amy Sanchez with husband Robert Sanchez, and Madison Cherry. David is also survived by many friends whom he loved and considered family.

A gathering and reception in his honor will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Grand View Funeral Home from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. A memorial tribute will follow from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
