Douglas Arthur Longron, 79 of LaPorte, Texas was born December 1, 1942 in Orange, Texas to Robert Lee and Ethel Mary (Richard) Longron and passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 in Clear Lake, Texas. On December 1, 1942 Doug was born to Bob & Ethel Longron in Orange, Tx. Growing up in a small town, life wasn’t always easy. At 7 years old he started his paper route just to buy a bicycle. He grew up working in rice fields digging ditches. As he got older, he started working on his uncle’s farm where he became a cowboy and learned to rope and herd cattle. He fell in love with rodeos where he competed riding brahma bulls and bare back broncs. At 17 he joined the Army to leave home and school. He proudly served for 4 years. During his military career, he became a helicopter mechanic, and finally crew chief for a CH-47 as well as getting his GED. He was very proud of his time in the military and to serve this country. After the Army, his job search led him to Houston to work various jobs including construction. This is where he met Cindy. She fell in love with this cowboy with lots of potential. He was smart with a lot of common sense. He had an amazing eye for detail and was a very hard worker.
He started out being a helper, where once again he was digging ditches. With a strong work ethic he climbed the ladder to project manager. Along that journey, he and Cindy enjoyed their 56 years of marriage. They spent their years together as soulmates, being both best friends and lovers. He was an avid outdoorsman, he and his family enjoyed snow skiing, fishing, scuba diving, trapping mink and muskrats, he was always up for an adventure. He even owned his own commercial fishing boat at one time. He was also a motorcyclist and enjoyed riding with Cindy and the kids when they were young, they also would travel together going on cruises and looking for new adventures. Later in life they enjoyed going to the Houston Astros Baseball games. Doug & Cindy had two wonderful children Stephanie (Punkin) and Doug Jr. (Tiger). They were the best riches in his life. As a father he enjoyed everything from family camping, fishing, hunting, motorcycles and snow skiing. He enjoyed all kind of activities with his family. He wasn’t perfect, but he was this family’s provider, protector, champion, hero, and playmate. Stephanie blessed him with 2 beautiful granddaughters, Shaylen and Chandler, who gave him the name Poppy. Tiger added additional blessing with 4 more grandchildren: Kyle, Kendall, Conner, and Courtney who then gave him the added bonus of 6 great grandchildren. His older sister Patsy gave him 6 wonderful nieces & nephews; and little sister Barbara Lee giving him a wonderful nephew. Only God knew how large this beautiful family would become. He will be missed by many, but we know his faith in Christ has placed him with our Lord and Savior for eternity.
