Edna Louise Robinson and her twin brother, Gus, were born in Galveston, Texas, the youngest of five children, who would eventually inherit three step-siblings after their mother died and their father remarried. Three half-siblings followed, and life was anything but easy. Edna had to drop out of school in the seventh grade, and at age 15, went to work at Eiband’s Department store, where she worked for 10 years. She met her husband, Clarence Shinn, a handsome soldier stationed at Fort Crockett, in 1937, and they married in 1938. They moved to Houston, where Clarence worked as a welder, eventually going to work for Ethyl Corporation in Pasadena as a machinist where he worked until his retirement. They had two children: son, Clarence, Jr. and daughter, “Susie”, and enjoyed 61 years of happiness until Clarence, Sr. died in 1999. Edna, a fabulous cook, worked at Deepwater Elementary in the school cafeteria for several years, but after Clarence’s retirement, they hit the road in their RV and traveled the U.S. They were active members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Deer Park, enjoyed dancing, singing together and hosting Sunday bar-b-cues in their backyard for family and friends. For the last few years, Edna resided at Bayou Pines Care Center in La Marque where she met many new friends and enjoyed social activities. She loved to tell jokes and laughter was her best medicine. Everyone at Bayou Pines shares our grief due to Edna’s vivacious personality, loveable nature and colorful language. She was a devoted wife, caring mother and lived life with vigor. We will miss her zest for life and sweet spirit. Edna had a vast collection of angels and now she is one of them. She is survived by her son, Clarence, Jr. of Lakewood, CO; daughter, Sue Mayfield Geiger and son-in-law, Gene Geiger of San Leon, Texas; grandson, Andy Mayfield and his wife, Jen, of Elmhurst, IL; grandson Adam Mayfield and his wife, Virginia, of Los Angeles, CA; and five great-grandchildren (Tom, Molly, Sean, Nick and Ryan Mayfield) of Elmhurst, IL. “We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another.” ― Luciano De Crescenzo
