Ethel passed away on August 29, 2023, in Webster Texas, after a valiant fight with cancer. Ethel was born in Kingsville, Texas on September 26, 1936, the daughter of Archie Goode and Willie Mae Almond Goode. Her father served as the Chief of Police in Kingsville, and her mother was a school teacher for the children on the King Ranch.
Ethel attended King High School in Kingsville. She spent her Friday nights as a lead twirler, cheering for a special football player name Danny Knowlton. In 1954, she graduated high school and married Danny, starting a family and marriage that would last over 69 years.
Ethel had many joys and pleasures throughout her life, with raising four boys being a key part. She served as a Boy Scout Den Mother for over 13 years and performed team-mom duties for numerous sporting teams. Ethel enjoyed spending summers with family and friends, camping at Garner State Park and traveling across the state with Danny and friends in their trailer. Whether it was weekend getaways at the Boat Club, week long trips snow skiing in New Mexico or Colorado, or cruises around the Caribbean and South America, Ethel took great delight in vacationing with family and friends.
Ethel served as a long-time member of the Pasadena Moose Lodge, receiving recognition from the Women Of The Moose College of Regents. Ethel’s contributions to the Moose Lodge spanned over 30 years. While she enjoyed spending leisure time dancing, participating in BBQ cookouts, and playing shuffleboard, Ethel took special pride and pleasure knowing her efforts were supporting the lives of children, seniors, and communities of Mooseheart and Moosehaven.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Clyde Goode, and two sons: Dennis Lee Knowlton and Deryl Mark Knowlton. She is survived by her beloved husband Danny Lee Knowlton; two sons, Dirk Knowlton and wife Dianna of LaPorte Texas, and Darin Knowlton and wife Michelle of Montgomery Texas; her 5 grandchildren: Lacey Chimene, and husband Billy; Chelsey Miller; Dayna Morara, and husband Nick; Daniel Knowlton, and wife Masa, and Paige Knowlton and Ron Amaya; her 10 great-grandchildren: Cameron Miller, Addilynn Morara, Olivia Chimene, William Chimene, Angelina Knowlton, Roxanne Knowlton, Josephine Knowlton, Ryder Amaya, Raylynn Amaya, and Rayne Amaya. She also left many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.
The family would like to thank the teams at UTMB hospital in Clear Lake, the HCA Houston Hospice & Family Care services, and the physicians, nurses, or other care members for their compassionate care and support they gave Ethel and family during this time.
