Gene Alton Cole of Seabrook, Texas, born January 7, 1951, passed away on the night of September 2, 2026, at the age of 75. Cindy's beloved husband of 41 years and popular musician in the local music scene, Gene will be sorely missed by fans, friends, neighbors and family.
For many years, Gene was president of GAC Systems (Communications Specialty), a telecommunications company he founded after decades of experience as a lineman for the phone company. After retiring, Gene devoted his time to two of his passions, music and travel. His other great loves were Cindy and his family.
Gene grew up in Deer Park with Mildred and Ralph Dunderdale, his older sister Sharon Cole and his stepbrother Butch Dunderdale. His father Gene Amos Cole was killed in an industrial accident on the day Mildred discovered she was pregnant with Gene.
In a previous marriage, Gene had a son, Matthew, who died at an early age.
Though a quiet, thoughtful person, Gene was usually the center of attention in any group, because of his kindness, his interest in others and his great sense of humor. He was especially popular when he brought along his guitar, singing meaningful songs he had written, as well as popular songs people enjoyed singing with him.
A bit of a prankster, friends love to tell the stories of jokes he played on them and he loved it when he got as good as he gave. Residents around Lake Mija might remember when Gene produced the unofficial official fireworks displays on holidays around the lake. One of his favorite places to be, when not performing with friends on local stages, was sitting under the palapa in his backyard on Lake Mija. Anyone invited for a barbeque understood their privilege.
Almost two years ago, Gene was diagnosed with lung cancer. His solid faith of many years helped carry him through these days. In spite of the difficulties, he was usually in a great mood and when asked, his most frequent answer was "Pretty good, this week."
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Gene Amos Cole; his mother, Mildred; his stepfather, Ralph Dunderdale; his son, Matthew; his sister, Sharon; his stepbrother, Butch; and niece Savannah Binger.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; nieces Patti, Shelley, Amanda Wenke and Ashley Henry; nephews Brett, Jeff, Tyler and Trent; great-nieces Shayley and Rylan; great-nephews T.J., Trevin and Braeden; sisters-in-law Kathy, Kay and Karen; brother-in-law Otis; and numerous Cole and Cave cousins, extended family members and dear friends.
