George Anne Bedford, 78, of Deer Park, TX passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021 in her recliner after getting home from enjoying one her favorite pastime, watching one of her grandchildren play volleyball and going to a casino.
There are many ways to describe George Anne, some of the things that come to mind are a pillar of the community, friend to all, devoted sorority sister and consummate host. She also was passionate for the special needs community, had the most infectious laugh, was a giving angel to organizations she felt were in need of personal and monetary assistance and a walking billboard for her town, Deer Park, that she loved. George Anne was a loving wife, great mother, doting grandmother, caring friend, and devoted mentor. In her own words, “We are everything in God.”
If you were lucky enough to be in her path of love, she loved you fiercely. She will be missed here on Earth by us all but we know she has taken over the planning and organizing committee in Heaven. The most treasured attribute of George Anne was the way she loved her family and was definitely the beloved matriarch of the Bedford clan.
George Anne was born June 17, 1943, in Tyler, Texas to George and Elaine Leger. After the passing of her father in WWII, she was adopted by Arthur Bronstad. She grew up in small town of Clifton, Texas. She started her vivacious character, being the football team mascot at the age of 5. She continued on to cheer at Clifton High School. She attended college at Lamar University, where she met the love of her life, Tom Bedford when he stopped to give her a ride while she was walking to church… and the rest is history. When recounting the memories of her life, no doubt she was raised with strong Christian values, love for family and passion for education. George Anne loved the Lord, and reflected His Light in everything she did in her life. She possessed the heart of a true servant of God, always humbly serving people in need. Many lives were deeply touched by the servanthood of George Anne. The list of accolades for her service and dedication to people and the community are endless. She was a 50 year member of Beta Sigma Phi where she received countless awards and recognition. Some of her most notable awards include La Porte ISD Teacher of the Year and Deer Park Citizen of the Year. Her favorite accomplishment was making sure Deer Park had cultural arts by leading the march at City Hall requesting a community theater, this began life-long support and dedication to the Deer Park Art Park Players. George Anne also was a long-time board member and advocate for The Wheelhouse, a men’s recovery center.
George Anne was preceded in death by her parents, George Leger, and Arthur and Elaine Bronstad. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Tom Bedford, her daughter, Georgette Ford, and husband Todd, her son Chris Bedford, and wife Kristy, and daughter, Lanette Smith, and husband David. Her grandchildren, Cody Smith and wife Sarah, Morgan Lafferty, Cole Bedford, Tyler Smith, Kylie Smith, Drew Bedford, Garrett Bedford, Tatum Smith and her great grandchildren, Blayke and Barrett Smith. George Anne loved and cherished her family deeply.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Monday, September 13th, at Grand View Funeral Home located at 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Texas 77505, with a Celebration of Life Service taking place 3 pm Tuesday, September 14th, at Deer Park United Methodist Church located at 1300 East 13th Street, Deer Park, Texas 77536.
