

George "Skeet" Hollis Van Dyke Jr., of La Porte, Texas, passed away on September 1, 2026, at the age of 77.
George was born on July 10, 1949, in Beeville, Texas. He spent his childhood throughout East Texas before settling in La Porte, where he met the love of his life, Jeannine Moorman, when they were both teenagers. The two became high school sweethearts and were married in Denver, Colorado, on November 28, 1969, sharing 56 years of marriage.
After graduating from La Porte High School, George proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973 as a Missile Guidance Technician. Following his military service, he attended San Jacinto College and went on to build a successful career as a self-taught engineer and Instrumentation, Electrical, Controls, and Automation Senior Designer. He also owned and operated an engraving business for several years. His intelligence, technical expertise, and problem-solving abilities earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his career, along with admiration for his dedication and professionalism.
George's faith in the Lord was the foundation of his life and guided his words, actions, and relationships every day. He made it a priority to share his faith with his children and grandchildren, encouraging prayer, reading Scripture with them, and taking time to discuss what they were learning about God. He gave love and unconditional support to his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Through his gentle guidance and example, he helped lay a foundation of faith that continues to inspire his family today.
George was deeply involved in his community through youth sports, beginning as a coach with the La Porte Cowboys and later coaching youth softball. He went on to become Athletic Director and President of the La Porte Oilers/Derrick Darlings organization and later served as President of Texas Intercity Football Incorporated (TIFI), where he helped expand opportunities for young athletes throughout the region. Through his leadership, mentorship, and commitment to young people, George positively impacted countless children and families.
George will be remembered for his faith, humility, generosity, and steadfast love for his family. With a good sense of humor and a gift for storytelling, he loved making others laugh and sharing memories from years past. Whether solving a problem, fixing something that seemed beyond repair, or offering thoughtful guidance, he left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the values he passed on, and the family he cherished.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannine Louise Van Dyke; his daughter, Kristine Louise Van Dyke; his son, George "Trey" Hollis Van Dyke III and wife Christina Nicole (Castro) Van Dyke; his grandchildren, Kaytlin Louise Van Dyke and Alessia Nicole Van Dyke; his brother, James Van Dyke; and his sister, Veleen (Van Dyke) Simms and husband Charlie Simms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George "Jack" Hollis Van Dyke Sr. and Jimmie Lou Van Dyke; his sister-in-law, Terry Van Dyke; his daughter, Kathrine Louise Van Dyke; and his granddaughter, Kierstyn Taylor Van Dyke.
George will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
A Funeral Service will be held at First United Methodist Church of La Porte Texas, 9601 W Fairmont Pkwy, La Porte, TX 77571, US, on September 9, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
