

Gertrude Koerber Hunt passed from this life in Pasadena, TX on September 1, 2011 at the age of 93. She was born on February 11, 1918 in Houston, TX to the union of James Louis Koerber and Ina Mae Perryman. Gertrude was a dedicated educator. She was employed by the Pasadena Independent School District. Throughout her career she enriched the lives of numerous students as a music teacher. Gertrude offered support and guidance to countless students during her years as a school counselor. She continued on as a substitute teacher after her retirement from the school district, and was a 14 year volunteer at Fraizer Elementary School. Gertrude was a lifetime member of the PTA; TSTA; and active as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and Alpha Delta Kappa until her retirement. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, where she served as a Deacon, and was a former member of the personnel committee. Gertrude was a member of the Eastern Star, and her sisters honored her in the traditional ceremony as she was laid to rest in Grand View Memorial Park.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, Alvin L. Hunt; 2 brothers, Louis Koeber, Jr.; Gene Koerber; and 1 sister, Melba Katz. She is survived by 1 son, Dr. A. Lee Hunt, Jr. and wife Angela; 1 daughter, Melba Slaven and husband Daniel; 5 grandchildren, Glenn Slaven, Andy Slaven, Leah Slaven, Tyler Hunt, and Ryan Hunt; 1 great grandchild, Katie Slaven; 2 nieces Jeannie Koerber, Kay Koerber Bowe; 2 nephews, David Katz, and Danny Katz; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church 4647 Preston Ave. Pasadena, TX 77505.
