Glenna was born on March 30, 1929 in Charleston, Arkansas where she lived until she was three years old when her family moved to Texas. Her parents were Luther Eugene Baldwin and Virginia Pearl Kinman.
She graduated from Phillip’s High School in 1946 where she was a cheerleader, and Miss Phillip’s High School. After graduating she married and started her family while living in Sanford, Texas.
In 1957 the family moved to Pasadena, Texas and Glenna began working at Port Adams Credit Union where she continued working for twenty-five years as their manager. During that time, she was very involved in the Jane Phillips Sorority holding the offices of Treasurer and President several years. She was also very active in the planning of the state conventions for the Jane Phillips Sorority for many of those years. Glenna was very active in the State and local Credit Union Associations.
Glenna loved to needle point and petit point. She was much more than just a crafter; she was an artist. She spent many hours working on museum quality needlepoints, some that were displayed at Tiffany’s as a back drop for their silver service displays in the windows at the Galleria in Houston. A beautiful violin she created in needlepoint was a copy from a painting at the Smithsonian in Washington DC, she also needlepointed a replica of Young Girl Reading from the National Museum of Art in Washington DC that she visited. Glenna spent hours and hours creating her needlepoints making sure all of her children and grandchildren had one. She created and donated a needlepoint base for the kneeling bench in the Chapel at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. The kneeling bench needle point has gold thread crosses on a navy background. Not only did she needlepoint but throughout the years she made most of the school dresses Jeanni and Jeri wore, they were finished on the inside just as beautiful as they were on the outside. When we married, she made both of our wedding dresses and on Easter she made dresses for all of her granddaughters that were cherished.
Her one true love was doing things for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids…she loved taking them to the Houston Zoo, Astro World and Space Center. They always said you had to run to keep up with Gan Gan! She loved cooking with them and having them over to her house and having them play in the back yard. Many hours were spent playing with cousins in the yard and on hot days drinking gator aid. She was a wonderful cook and she would cook the things they liked. They especially loved her fried chicken, Christmas cookie and candy tins, and her dressing on Thanksgiving!
