Helen was cherished as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and dear friend. She was an extraordinary woman with a heart as big as her smile, and she truly mastered the art of loving others well. She adored her family, treasured friendships, and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her home was always a warm and inviting place, filled with hospitality, laughter, and love.
Helen received her professional education and training at the UTMB Science Center and went on to enjoy a long and dedicated career as a lab technician and supervisor. She retired from Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena, Texas. Following retirement, she relocated to Trinity, Texas, where she enjoyed the home she dearly loved.
Helen had a true zest for life and was always ready for the next adventure. She was a social butterfly with a wonderful sense of humor and a delightfully sassy wit that brought joy to those around her. She loved fashion and never missed an opportunity to accessorize perfectly for any occasion. She enjoyed playing cards and games with friends, bingo, beach trips, dining out, and, of course, trying her luck—and often winning—at the slot machines.
She had a servant’s heart and generously gave her time volunteering at a nursing home, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Helen also loved being a proud member of the Red Hat Society, embracing friendship, fun, and fellowship.
Above all, Helen was a faithful woman of God who trusted the Lord to guide her life. Her calm presence brought peace to those around her, and her unwavering positivity encouraged others through life’s challenges.
Helen is survived by her son, Butch Pate and wife Ellie; her grandchildren, Josh Pate and wife Shelby, Amber Vestal and husband Cody, Carlos Mendoza Hernandez, Jesus Mendoza Hernandez, and John Mendoza Hernandez; her great-grandchildren, Keagan and Kaeden Pate, Bentlee Vestal, and Raelyn Harwell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Gaston Earl Pate, Sr., and her daughter, Lisa Gale Pate.
Helen’s legacy of love, laughter, faith, and kindness will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
