Irvin Richard “Dick” Flewelling, Age 75, of Deer Park, Texas passed away peacefully early Sunday morning on December 9, 2012. He was born to parents Royal Arthur and Elizabeth Bayerkohler Flewelling in Milo, Missouri on March 2, 1937.
He grew up on a farm outside of Milo and graduated from Eldorado Springs High School in 1955. After graduating he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and met Peggy Sue Chandler of Springfield, Missouri. They were married in September 1956 and soon after moved to Pasadena, Texas to work for Phillips 66 Petroleum Company and then ultimately Continental Can Company in Houston where he remained employed as an electrician until 1992. Dick and Peggy had 2 children, Lindall Mark (1957) and Janet Jean (1960).
He attended San Jacinto College and obtained certification as a Maintenance Electrician.
Dick was a member of the Pasadena Gospel Temple Church and often was a soloist, choir singer and Sunday school teacher.
His primary hobbies were watching his beloved Houston sports teams of which he enjoyed immensely sharing his enthusiasm with his son Lindall and grandsons Cody and Kyle over the years. He also liked to play card games, dominoes and chess with various family members and friends over the years. He enjoyed playing guitar, piano and greatly enjoyed listening to music primarily classical country music, gospel and bluegrass music genres.
Dick enjoyed visiting family and reunions every year in the Kansas City area and enjoyed traveling. He cherished his relationships with his immediate and extended family in both the Houston area, Kansas City and Nevada, Missouri regions.
Irvin Richard “Dick” Flewelling was preceded in death by his parents Royal Arthur and Elizabeth Flewelling, brothers Leslie “Les”, Leeland “Lee”, George, Charles, Arthur “Art”, Robert “ Bob” and Jim and sisters Lois Reimers and Imagene “Jean” Norris.
He is survived by wife and friend Peggy Flewelling, son Lindall Mark Flewelling and wife Patty (Flower Mound, Texas), daughter Janet Flewelling Poage and husband David Poage (Deer Park, Texas); grandchildren, Cody Alan Poage, Kyle David Poage, Christina Renee Payne and husband Andrew Payne and Charles Joseph Stegall; great granddaughters Kaleigh Anne and Addison Grace.
He is also survived by sister Ada B. Fisher (Pasadena, Texas) and brother,Tom Flewelling (Milo, Missouri) as well as many numerous nieces, nephews that he thoroughly loved and cherished as well.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 14, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grand View Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
