James (Jim) Aaron Collins, 78, of LaPorte, Texas, passed away on January 20, 2019 after fighting his battle of ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born in Taylor, Texas on May 22, 1940 to Glendon and Mary Collins. He had a passion for sports, specifically for the Houston Texans, and even more so he had a passion for his puppies. Jim was a hardworking man and found joy in all of the work he did. He was retired from Houston Lighting and Power after 30 years. Jim grew up in Thrall, Texas and graduated from Thrall High School in 1958. Upon graduation, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Columbus.
Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, Glendon and Mary Collins; his loving wife, Linda Collins; his brother, Howard Collins; and his sister, Glennie Ruth Fronek.
He is survived by a daughter, Traci Bernal and her husband, Joe Bernal; a son, Bryan Scott Rector and his wife, Monique Rector; a brother, Kenneth Collins and his wife Gayle Collins; and four grandchildren: Joey Bernal, Brianna Bernal, Sam Rector, and Jacquelyn Rector. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and many other friends and family who loved him dearly.
The family also wishes to give a special thank you to Traditions Hospice, who gave Jim comfort and care during his final days.
