James Robert Crawford
December 27, 1944 – April 8, 2018
James Robert Crawford, age 73, of Pasadena, TX passed away on April 8, 2018. He was born on December 27, 1944 to Floyd & Edna Crawford of Pasadena. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1963 and went on to get his Associates of Fire Sciences Degree from San Jacinto College. James also served 6 years in the United States Air Force Reserves.
James was married to Cheryl on May 5, 1967 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last May. Together they had 3 children, Debra, David and Carolyn.
James joined the Houston Fire Department in 1968. He was promoted to Senior Captain within 10 years of service and worked on the southeast side of Houston. He retired from station #93 after 37 years of service.
James enjoyed camping with his family, playing golf, traveling and watching his grandkids sports and activities.
James was an avid golfer. He and Cheryl traveled and took many vacations that revolved around golf courses. In 1992 and 1996 he was on the Houston Fire Fighter Olympic team that won the gold medal both times.
After he and Cheryl both retired, they took many vacations together. A few of these trips included cruises to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe. He also loved camping and always had a travel trailer. They loved taking camping trips for weeks at a time and they would only come home long enough to get a quick kid and grandkid fix and then they were ready to leave again. Every one of their grandkids looked forward to the summers because they knew they’d be going camping with Nanny & Grand somewhere.
James was extremely proud of his family. He loved his kids, his sons and daughter in law, and especially his grandchildren. Words cannot express how much he loved his family and he took great pride in every one of them.
James is preceded in death by his father Floyd, and mother Edna Crawford. My heart is heavy for all of you. Mr. Crawford was such a sweet man and I can remember always having fun at the Crawford house. I know you have many, many memories to cherish and hold on to. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. My mom was celebrating her birthday on April 8th and she must have welcomed him right into the celebration.
