

James was born on December 15th, 1931 in Rita, Texas, a small unincorporated town near Caldwell. His family moved to La Porte when he was six years old. It was where he would call home for the next 86 years.
After high school, James joined the Air Force and proudly served in the Korean War. Upon returning he took a job at Shell Chemical Company in Deer Park, Texas; married and began a family. He worked for Shell his entire career. He began as an operator and later worked in maintenance. James also taught pipefitting at Lee College part time. He retired from Shell in 1992.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years Cleo W. Miller, daughter Deborah Berg (Jim), Sister G. Elizabeth Steele (Ron), Grandchildren Christina Hilner and Jenna Deao, great grandchildren Emma, Ryland, Charlie, Channing and several nieces, nephews and their spouses.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Marguerite (Spacek) Miller, son Christopher Miller, sisters Thelma Miller and Frances (Miller) Adams, and his brother Milton Miller.
James was a very kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His gentle disposition left an impression on everyone who met him. He was a good provider and quite the handyman. He enjoyed working with his hands and was always building and repairing things. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. Later in retirement he enjoyed gardening and researching his family genealogy. He became a member of the La Porte Heritage Society where he loved sharing memories of early La Porte history. James also loved to listen to country western music and watch older shows on TV. Some of his favorite shows were Gunsmoke, MASH, Perry Mason, and anything historical. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for James will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 21, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. A graveside service will occur Friday, June 21, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505.
