The Worthen family has been a part of my family's life since we moved to Pasadena in 1962 and joined Boulevard Baptist Church.  Our families enjoyed many fun times together and made many wonderful memories along the way which I will always hold dear in my heart.  My mom loved to sing with J.B. while Millie and my dad would sit and sweetly listen in silence!  We had the privilege of J.B. serving as music minister with my dad who served as pastor of Texas Avenue Baptist Church for several years.  J.B. loved the Lord, he loved his family and embraced his friends with an unconditional love that we can only hope to experience here on earth.  I consider it a true honor and privilege to feel that love that he so freely gave.  As my dad went to his heavenly home, followed by J.B.'s precious Millie, other family members and friends, mom and J.B. would continue to enjoy keeping in touch and having conversations that resulted in laughs and tears at the same time.  Susan, know that heaven is a happier and louder place for sure now that your dad is trying his best to, once again, get my dad on the right key as he so loudly sings his favorite hymns!  What a wonderful greeting J.B. found as he reached heaven's gate and received God's loving hand, meeting Him face to face as He welcomed home His good and faithful servant.  How blessed the Phipps family is to have known and shared life with him and Millie.  May we all feel God's grace and goodness during this time of warm reflection of a wonderful man and the gift he gave to everyone.  Love to you all, Charlotte Phipps Wellman

The Worthen family has been a part of my life since we joined Boulevard Baptist Church when we moved to Pasadena in 1962.  J.B. and Mildred enjoyed many fun times with my mom and dad.  Mom loved to sing with J.B. and we had the honor of him serving as music minister with my dad, the pastor, at Texas Avenue Baptist Church in Houston for several years.  J.B. loved life, he loved his family and he embraced his friends with an unconditional love that one could only hope for here on earth.  There's not enough room in this guestbook to write the many, many kind things and wonderful, warm memories the Phipps family and the Worthen family shared through the years.  Even as my dad went to his heavenly home, joined by J.B.'s precious Mildred and other family and friends, mom and J.B. kept in touch and enjoyed an occasional meal together and always good conversations!  Susan, heaven is a much louder and jovial place now that your dad is there, especially trying to help my dad find the right tune to sing that wonderful hymn, "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder"!!  May we all find tremendous comfort and peace in knowing the happiness and reward they have found in joining loved ones and meeting their heavenly Father face to face! First I want to say how much JB loved his family.  Always telling us about their many talents and fun they had.                                       We are going to miss JB so very much.  We loved him from the first time we met.  How could you not.  He was always interested in everyone.  Such a caring, loving person.  He was fun!  Loved to laugh and joke around.  Such a worker for our Lord.  Thoroughly loved making his hospital visits.  He knew his Bible too.
He sat with us Sunday and Wednesday nights.  I had him sit in between Bill and I so we both could talk to him.  The second time he sat with us he says"don't you want to sit by your little man?"  I said"no, I can sit with him anytime, I want to sit by you."  He just grinned. He always hugged Bill and told him he loved him.
How can you talk about JB without the mention of music.  God blessed him with a wonderful voice and he knew all the old gospel songs.  He wanted me to sing alto with him and I have always sung soprano.  I would harmonize with him.  Last wednesday night with our arms around each other we sang Jesus Messiah with our hearts lifted up to our Lord.   I will have that memory forever.  Singing will never be the same for me.
He is greatly loved and missed.  Our lives have been blessed so much from knowing JB.  He is singing in Heaven's great choir now praising Jesus with Mildred and John.

Mrs. Warren, please know that my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.  Always remember to trust GOD in everything; he is too loving to be unkind and too wise to make a mistake.  Remember Jesus' promise to us: "I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."  May GOD comfort you and yours and provide lasting peace and serenity.  All the best to you and your family!
