Jerry Gullick

October 4, 1946January 14, 2012

Born in Galena Park, TX, the son of Melton Woodrow Wilson Gullick and Margie Joyce Gullick, Jerry was raised from early childhood by his Stepfather Henry B. Mayo and mother Margie. He graduated from High School in 1965 and joined the US Coast Guard in 1966. He served in various locations including Guam and Galveston, TX. He was recruited into the US Central Intelligence Agency in 1970. While in the CIA, Jerry was stationed on the Iran/Russia border, where he monitored and tracked Russian missile launches. After resigning from the CIA in 1973, he began attending San Jacinto Junior College using the GI Bill and completed his Electrical Engineering degree at Texas A&M University in 1977. He worked for several companies over his career in engineering and management to include: Schlumberger, US Gypsum, Van Leer/Chinet, Tenneco, his own consulting company, and South Houston High School. Jerry had an interesting work career spanning several areas; from an on-rig oil engineer to manufacturing plant manager and finally to his most rewarding career of being a high school math teacher. He also owns an international patent on specialized paper manufacturing process. In 1997 he married Terry Lynn Ely and in 2000 they relocated to Kingwood TX where they shared a wonderful life until his death in 2012. Jerry was predeceased by his parents and his daughter Jerolyn. He is survived by his wife Terry, son Scott (from his first wife Robbie Cecile Sheffield), stepdaughter Stephanie, brother Milton and wife Roberta Gullick, sister Carolyn Keels, his Aunt Marlene Birdwell, cousin Sheila Hart, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Jerry was a life-long learner and student. He had an incredibly inquisitive mind and he enjoyed learning throughout his life. His thirst for knowledge was a gift, and he was able to convey the gift to the many the students he helped educate, encourage and inspire. Special thanks to South Houston High School, St Joseph Medical Center, and his two lifelong friends Don Grubbs and Mike Wheat. I still think about you all the time, Mr. Gullick. If I could be half the person you were, I'd be doing great in life. You will still always be one of my bestfriends.

My name is Bud Philbrook, and I first met Jerry back in the early 80's, when he and I both work for US Gypsum Company. We spent many days and nights together at a paper millin Galena Park, Texas, working on a new paper manufacturing process. Our friendship extended for years, through our shared days at Van Leer/Chinet.
Jerry was a great friend and a wonderful human being. Our nation has lost a great citizen. Please accept my condolences.

Best Regards,
Bud Philbrook
