Jimmie Lynn Genzer was born in Jena, LA on February 19, 1938, but spent her childhood in South Houston, TX, where she attended South Houston Elementary and South Houston Junior High School, before graduating from Pasadena Senior High School in 1956. She was raised in the Methodist church, and loved attending Sunday school.
As a young woman, Jimmie Lynn spent time at Acme Laundry and Cleaners, the family dry-cleaning and tailor shop in South Houston before spreading her wings in high School and worked at Skylark, a camera store in downtown Pasadena. It was while working there she met the love of her life, Jimmy Joe Spinks. Later she taught physical education at Mae Smythe Elementary before going into school administration. There she was able to teach, and be near her youngest son, Douglas. She also met many dear friends in this time, including Jo Ann D’Antonio.
Jimmie Lynn was an accomplished seamstress, loved to counter cross-stitch, and created treasured clothing for her grandchildren and nieces. Second to the love of her family was her constant canine companion(s) Harley, a rescued wirehaired dachshund as well as Maggie, Gretchen, Gingee, and Fawn.
Jimmie Lynn lived with Joe and raised her boys in South Houston, before settling into her home of 40+ years in La Porte, where she met her good friend Francis Parker. Here Jimmie Lynn spent her time sewing and gardening. She was an avid photographer who took many photos of family members, and photos of her travels. She spent time with her sons, grandchildren and dogs, documenting and creating memories via photos, and sewing many treasured items for the family.
For the past 7 years she has resided in Biloxi, MS, with her brother Frank, where she enjoyed attending church at First Presbyterian Church of Biloxi. She enjoyed taking many outings to the coast, exploring the surrounding areas and visiting with friends, especially Carol Ann Smith. She never turned down an opportunity to dine, fast or fine. She loved to compliment friends and acquaintances on their appearance but cautioned anyone about coloring their hair and encouraged everyone to use moisturizer because her own skin was so beautiful. Even though Alzheimer’s stole most of her talents, her sweet personality survived. As her health declined, she returned to Deer Park, TX to be closer to family and friends, under the loving care of nieces, especially Tina White and Jimmie Lynn’s brother Charles.
Jimmie Lynn is survived by her eldest son, Steven Paul Spinks, his two daughters Emily McGranahan and Paloma Esquivel, youngest son Douglas Brent Spinks, daughter-in-law KT Gardner, and grandson James Todd Gardner-Spinks. She is also survived by her brothers, Charles Trueman Genzer and Frank Genzer Jr., along with numerous nieces and nephews-in-law, and multiple first cousins.
