

Joe Gonzales Sr., 74, of Pasadena, Texas was called home to our Lord and Savior on September 19, 2021. Joe was born on March 20, 1947 and grew up in South Houston, Texas. He was the youngest son of John Gonzales Sr. and Nieves Maldonado. Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Virginia Lopez and Mary Gomez, grandson Joe “Trey” Gonzales III and his beloved dog and best friend Kane Gonzales. He is survived by his wife Elfida Peña Gonzales, siblings John Gonzales Jr., Jerry Gonzales, Maria G. Castillo, Erminia Cadena, children Joe Gonzales Jr and wife Ida Gonzales, Annette Gonzales Salas and husband Rey Salas, Nannette Gonzales Moland and husband Chad Moland, Shawn Gonzales, and James Gonzales and wife Amy Rose Gonzales. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Gonzales, Jessica Walker, Erica Gonzales, Ashley Gonzales, Diego Gonzales, Tiffani Moreno, Marc Moland, Kailah Gonzales, Kaitlyn Gonzales, James Mateo Gonzales, Kylee Salas, Kuno Gonzales, Ariah Salas, Damian Gonzales, Noe Garza, Gabriel Garza, Alejandro Garza, and great grandchildren Caiden Gonzales, Rhodee Gonzales, Olivia Miramontes, Jade Miramontes, Zayden Moreno, Hunter Moreno, Jaxon Moreno, and his “Reina” Mackenzie Walker. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who he loved very much.
Joe attended South Houston High School, he worked and retired as a welder from Union Pacific Railroad after 40 years of services. Not one to ever sit around and be unproductive, Joe continued working after retirement doing landscaping for local businesses and residents of the surrounding community. He was known by his family and friends for his hard work ethic, kind heart, sense of humor , his white or as he would say “jet black” hair/beard, and his infectious Gonzales smile.
Joe was a passionate hunter and fisherman. He loved going on his family’s annual Deep Sea fishing trips and hunting with his sons and grandchildren. Joe also loved having get togethers and barbeque cookouts with his family and friends. He loved working on his backyard vegetable garden. When Joe wasn’t working, he enjoyed watching the Houston Astros and Houston Texans, or watching his favorite movies (Westerns) while enjoying his favorite snack, Popcorn and pickles. After a hard day’s work, Joe enjoyed relaxing outside with an ice-cold Miller Lite and listening to Tejano music. In his younger days, Joe enjoyed playing baseball/softball with friends and family. He also coached his son’s when they played baseball as kids.
Joe loved reminiscing and sharing his stories and life lessons with his children and grandchildren. He shared a special bond with his grandchildren that they will always cherish. He loved his family and welcomely opened his home to anyone who came through the door.
Joe Gonzales Sr. will be immensely missed by his family and friends and he will live on in their cherished memories of him.
