John Louis Marinos was born June 26, 1950 in Santa Cruz, California where he lived until 1979. He moved to the east coast with his first and only love, his wife Marilyn and two young children to pursue a career as a software engineer. In 1986, they moved to the Houston area where he retired later from NASA after 34 year career.
John was educated at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, Condie College in Campbell, California, as well as achieving Cyber Security and CMPIC Certifications at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.
On October 24, 2019, John Marinos passed suddenly. He is survived by his son Timothy Alexander Leonidas Marinos, his daughter Karen Ann Marinos, his two brothers Nicolaos and Manuel William Marinos, as well as his sister Maria Marinos. He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife Marilyn Jane Marinos, his sister Katherine Leonidas Marinos, his mother Zampia Leonidas Marinos, and his father Leonidas Marcos Marinos.
John Marinos served on the boards of various non-profit service organizations, volunteered to help the less fortunate as well as supporting his local church, Calvary Chapel of Houston and the radio station KSBJ. He was a founding member of two non-profits which to this day continue to serve the addicted and homeless in Santa Cruz, CA. Some of his youthful ministry and exploits are recorded in the book he helped write: “Journey on the Hard Side of Miracles”
Those who knew John loved him for his remarkable steadfastness. With his thoughtful, soft spoken nature he drew scarce attention to himself or his endless effort to serve others. John never wavered in his faith or gentle nature and his kind and pure heart will be deeply missed. Easy to call a friend, he never hesitated to share his wry sense of humor, unconditional love, or his sincere interest in the needs of those who were less fortunate.
A man of faith, John Marinos is returning to the One he trusted his entire life.
