With hearts filled with sorrow and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Juanita Esperanza Valencia, who entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 15, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by family.
Born in Gregory, Texas, to Epigmenio and Leonor De La Rosa, Esperanza lived a life defined by faith, hope, and unconditional love. Fittingly, her middle name, Esperanza, means “hope”—a virtue she embodied every day through her unwavering trust in God and her steadfast devotion to her family.
A faithful member of Life Community Church, Esperanza’s relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. Her faith guided her decisions, strengthened her through life’s challenges, and inspired the love and compassion she extended to everyone she met.
One of God’s greatest gifts to Esperanza was her beautiful voice. An extraordinary soprano, she loved to sing and found great joy in praising the Lord through music. Whether singing hymns of worship or filling her home with song, her voice brought comfort, inspiration, and joy to those around her. It was a reflection of the peace and hope that lived within her heart.
Above all, Esperanza’s greatest calling was her family. She devoted herself to raising her nine children with patience, wisdom, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. Her home was a place where everyone was welcomed, cared for, and encouraged. She taught her children not only by her words but by the example of a life lived with humility, grace, perseverance, and trust in God.
While her family was always her first priority, Esperanza also served her community with dedication. She managed the Housing Authority in her hometown before later working for the La Porte Independent School District, where she continued to touch the lives of others through her kindness, strong work ethic, and caring spirit.
Esperanza was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Epigmenio and Leonor De La Rosa; her devoted husband, Rafael Valencia; her brother, Roberto De La Rosa; her sister, Juanita Bazán; her son-in-law, Joe Garcia Jr.; and her beloved grandson, Christopher Valencia.
She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her children Rafael Valencia and wife Cristina Valencia; Verónica Ortiz and husband Amado Ortiz; Javier Valencia and wife Stella Valencia; Emmanuel Valencia and wife Linda Valencia; Carlos Valencia; Diane Rico and husband Ben Rico; Janet Garcia; Jeffrey Valencia and wife Krystal Valencia; and Michelle
Valencia and husband Arturo Martinez; and her bonus child Jennifer Henderson and her husband Johnny. She was also blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, extended family members, and cherished friends, all of whom were enriched by her love, wisdom, and prayers.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. We find comfort in knowing that Esperanza has been welcomed into her heavenly home, where every tear has been wiped away and where she now joins the heavenly choir, singing praises to her Savior with the same beautiful voice that blessed so many throughout her life.
The words of the Apostle Paul beautifully reflect the life she lived:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Esperanza’s life was a testimony to God’s faithfulness. She taught her family the importance of love, perseverance, forgiveness, and trusting the Lord through every season of life. Her prayers, her music, her gentle spirit, and her unconditional love will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
While we grieve her passing, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a faith that never wavered. We look forward with hope to the day we are united with her in the presence of our Savior.
“Well done, good and faithful servant” – Matthew 25:23
