She was surrounded by three of her five children. Julie was a long time resident of Pasadena, Texas, moving to Austin in 2006 to be closer to her daughter. She was cared for by both daughters, and for the past four years by the loving staff at Angel’s Place at Sunland in Austin. She is survived by her children: Stepsons Rick Sullivan and Jim Sullivan of Nashville, Tennessee, daughters Ellen Sullivan and Julie Ann Sullivan of Austin, Texas, and son Brian Sullivan of Tucson, Arizona; by her nine grandchildren, and by her 11 great-grandchildren. Her dear friends Isabelle Nelson, Dottie Barkalow, and Walena Medlin also survive her. Her loving husband Donald Sullivan and brother Bill Hugo predeceased her in death. Born in her paternal grandparent’s home in Richmond, Indiana, Julie spent her childhood and young adult years in Dayton, Ohio, where she met and married her husband Donald. Their three children were born in Dayton. The family moved to the Houston area in 1962 for Donald’s job at NASA, and settled in Pasadena, where Julie lived for 45 years. Donald brought two sons to the family from a previous marriage. Julie always considered these two sons as much her children as those to whom she gave birth. Julie sang to the very end, studying voice with Louis John Johnen in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a young woman. She sang in numerous civic and church choirs and served as choir director at both Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church in Kettering, Ohio, and First Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church in Pasadena, Texas. She also played piano, violin, and organ, serving as occasional organist for several churches. Julie was an avid reader, especially enjoying history and fiction. She began studying painting and sculpture in her middle years and produced a variety of works. A lifelong talented sewer, she quilted and even made dolls. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, and gardening.
In lieu of flowers her family requests memorial donations to Peace Lutheran Church in Pasadena, Texas.
