Kenneth Neil Parr, 88, of Deer Park, Texas returned to his heavenly home on May 1st, 2015 after a valiant battle with a prolonged heart condition. His devotion to his family and his belief in God supported him in his struggle and offered him a sense of peace. Kenneth was born to Olga and Arthur Parr on July 27, 1926 in Galveston. His early years were spent in League City, living at Galveston County Park where his father served as caretaker. He graduated from League City High School in 1943 and joined the Marine Corp at the age of 16. His service to our country led him to two Purple Hearts following 4 beachfront landings, including Iwo Jima, during the Pacific campaign of World War II. Upon returning to civilian life, Kenny signed a contract to play minor league baseball for the Chicago Cubs. After sustaining a knee injury during spring training, he followed his heart back to Galveston and met the love of his life Marian Weber. Kenny worked for Rohm and Haas Chemical Company for 30 years to support his growing family. He also grew in his faith and was ordained as a Catholic Deacon. This faith served him well on missionary trips to Mexico and Romania. His most recent church membership was at Faithbridge Church is Pasadena. Kenny preached on the first day I came to St. Frances Cabrini Church in 1979. As soon as I heard him, I knew that I was at the right place. Thanks, Kenny. Marion, I love you.

I am sorry that I never met Kenny but I know one of his brothers and a nephew well. He was a good athlete at my hometown League City and played when that school was so small it played six man football. I do know that he was an outstanding pitcher in a fast pitch softball league in Galveston. I never knew about his part in the assault of Pacific islands as a Marine in World War II. I find myself missing a man I never knew.

I will miss my Uncle Kenny so much. He was a truly great man who when I was a kid my mother would always cite as someone to look up to. Kenny will now be looking down on us from Heaven Above. We thank the Lord for him.
