

She grew up in Fayetteville, TN and graduated from Central High School in Fayetteville in 1963. Landess then went on to nursing school at St. Thomas Nursing School in Nashville, TN. After graduating she married her high school sweetheart Randall Richards and was married to him for 55 years until his death in 2022. They moved to the Houston area in 1967 where she worked as an RN at Bayshore Hospital until she was retired in 2004.
Landess was often a quiet soul but her kindness was deeply felt by everyone who knew her. Being a nurse and a mother brought out her nurturing and caring personality. Though soft spoken, she carried tremendous strength and grace.
Landess was a lover of all animals, especially cats and kittens. She loved to read, she had a tremendous book collection. She also read the newspaper every single day along with an array of magazines. She never missed an Astros game and was a huge fan since moving to the Houston area. She also enjoyed word puzzles in her spare time.
Landess was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Lucille; her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" King; her husband, James Randall Richards; and her son, John Richards.
Left to cherish Landess' memory is her daughter, Beth Richards of La Porte; her granddaughters, Megan Wood of Webster, and Calleigh Richards of Pflugerville; and her nephew, Lee Gray of Miami.
Visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home, Lone Star Stateroom, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505, on May 26, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Landess' Life will begin at 7:00 pm.
