Margie Ruth Cox

Margie Ruth Cox, 83, of Pasadena, TX, passed away on May 1, 2018 at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was born in Franklin, TX on March 9, 1935 to Frank and Florence Frost. She grew up on the family farm. She was an excellent student and graduated from Franklin High School on May 22, 1952. While working at a grocery store next to Rexall Drugs on Shaver St. in Pasadena, she met a striking man recently out of the navy. He called her “Red” due to her beautiful red hair. After a first date at the movies, he soon couldn’t live without her. She was married to Robert Eugene Cox for 23 years.

She also worked for the Cook Book bakery in downtown Houston and took the bus to work until that handsome sailor bought her a car. She was a homemaker until Robert’s sudden death in 1979. She eventually started work at the Sears Parts Warehouse on Griggs road. She retired from Sears at 60 years old and after a while, worked part time at Macy’s on Southmore. She made good friends at both Sears and Macy’s.

In 1976, she was elected to receive the degrees of the Order of the Eastern Star. Later in 1988, she was installed as an officer in the Pasadena Chapter.

Margie loved to travel, camp, was the unofficial “Official” family historian, enjoyed cooking her families’ favorite foods, attending her children, grandchildren and great children’s events, rooting for the Houston Texans and the Astros, working puzzles and playing games on her tablet. Her favorite thing to do was be with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Cox, beloved son Robert Ray Cox and infant grandson David. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Frances Frost, Shirley Yockov, Maxine Hess and Martha Lou Speer, along with her brothers Luther Frost and Jesse Taylor Frost.

Margie, affectionately known to the family as “Memaw”, is survived by her daughter Brenda Cohen and husband Michael, Daughter-in-Law Elizabeth Cox and Granddaughter Mirandy Cox. Also loved by her grandsons Wesley Griffith and wife Mia, Cody Cox, Tanner Cox and wife Jamie, Barry Cohen and wife Emily. She also leaves her great grandchildren, Sean Griffith, Colin Griffith, Winter Griffith, Maddie Thurman, Abbey Thurman and Calisa Cohen. Also leaving many special nieces and nephews.

Always loved talking to Margie. She had a beautiful Texas accent and a laugh that was a joy to hear. She was a real one of a kind and wonderful person. Will miss her.
