

Marvin Earl Conrad, Sr., 86, of Pasadena, Texas passed away June 9, 2016. He was born July 6, 1929, at home, in Talbot County, Maryland. He was the third oldest of 12 children born to Harry and Esther Conrad. Growing up, everyone called him by the nickname, “Buddy”, or shortened, as “Bud.” While in school, he played soccer, basketball and ran track. He graduated from Easton High School in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 21, 1950. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War, in which he served as a Crew Chief in the Air Rescue Service. Toward the end of his enlistment, he was transferred to Ellington Airfield, Texas. He received his honorable discharge in July, 1954. He married Shirley Davis of Pasadena, Texas on November 5, 1954. In October 1954, he had started work at Champion/Simpson Paper Mill in Pasadena;his career spanning 40 years. During this time, he was also a member of the Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department, and for 21 years, he served in various roles, including Captain and District Chief. He was proud to be a Fireman. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, Shirley Conrad and his children: Cynthia Zarsky (John), Marvin Conrad, Jr.(Denise), Vivian Augustine (August, Jr.), Neal Conrad (Tracey), and many grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, and his many nieces, and nephews. He was a devoted and hard working family man and loved spending what limited amount of leisure time he had playing board games such as Pollyanna or Monopoly, playing dominoes, and just about any type of card game. Much of his enjoyment came from just being outside: traveling, fishing, hunting, playing sports,playing baseball and/or catch, and even playing kickball with his children. He especially loved tending to his garden. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena, Texas on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 10:15AM.The Conrad family extends their warmest gratitude to Hallmark Hospice and to The Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department.
