Mary Ann Elizabeth Mattern, 83, of Pasadena passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019. She was born in Kaufman, Texas on July 15, 1935 to the late George Kearney and Ena Montemayer. Mary graduated from Crosby High School in Crosby, TX in 1952. She made her home in Pasadena, TX since 1958. Most of her career she enjoyed as a switchboard operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone and Hilton Hotels. Mary was an active member and volunteered for many years in numerous organizations including Sunshiners, Red Hatters, Prime Timers and the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Classic Club. She enjoyed bingo with her friends, was the puzzle Queen at Colonial Oaks and always up for a good game of dominoes. Mary and her late husband Bob were married for almost 60 years, loved to travel and took many trips together after retirement. She is survived by her son, Robert (Bobby) Mattern, Jr. of Pasadena; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mike Odom of Port Aransas; grandchildren, Chris Mattern of Pasadena; Rynne Mattern of Pasadena; Heather Odom of Corpus Christi and Mitchell Odom of Port Aransas; great-grandchildren Shiloh and Scarlet Mattern of Alvin, TX and numerous loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, infant daughter Darla Jean, brother G.A. Kearney, sister Claudine Kearney and her parents. The family would like to thank Dr. Nadir Ali and Chana Van Houten, FNP at Heart Physicians of Clear Lake, Dr. Chau Vu at Kidney Specialists of Bay Area and the staff at Clear Lake Regional Hospital for their outstanding medical care that allowed Mom to thrive over the last five years; Grace Hospice of Texas for their thoughtful, comforting care and advice; Susan Guhlin, RN and her staff at Applied Home Health, Parsons House and Colonial Oaks for their compassionate care and companionship. Also special friend Tommy Ginn for his friendship over all of the years. Heartfelt appreciation to Heather Odom, RN; Chief Chris Shanklin, Port Aransas VFD; Port Aransas EMS; Dr. Raleigh Smith and Donna Bradley, RN for their incredible lifesaving efforts Thanksgiving night 2014, for without that, Mary would not have had the gift of 5 more years. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 9 – 10 a.m. at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena, Texas with services to follow at 10 a.m. in the Chapel. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Garden of Memories in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Port Aransas EMS, 705 W. Ave A, Port Aransas, TX 78373 or the American Heart Association.
