Paul Everett Carswell of Deer Park, TX, passed away on November 20, 2025, after a stroke. He spent his final moments at Methodist Hospital in Houston, with his daughter Amy Redman and granddaughter Katherine Barclay beside him. Paul was born on August 26, 1937, in Gilmer, TX, to Everett and Trudie Carswell.
Paul graduated from Gilmer High School in 1955 and went on to play football at Kilgore Junior College and Lamar Tech University where he earned his degree in math. He began his career of teaching and coaching in Port Neches Groves ISD where he encouraged countless students both in the classroom and on the field. He later earned a master’s degree from McNeese State University and, in 1976, became the head football coach at Forest Park High School in Beaumont. Eventually, he took on the role of Director of Athletics for Beaumont ISD, a position that allowed him to support programs and students across the district—something he cared deeply about.
In 1959, Paul married Lorraine Winberg, the love of his life. They shared many years together before her passing in 2018. Paul is survived by their children, Robert and Amy; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his sister, Bonnie Shattles. His family—and everyone who knew him—will remember his steady presence, his sense of humor, and the pride he took in the people he loved.
A visitation will be held on December 12th at 1:00pm with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00pm—
