March 31, 1922March 19, 2013

Polly Noblitt Meyers, 90, longtime resident of La Porte, Texas passed away in her sleep Tuesday, March 19, 2013. She was born March 31, 1922 in Spring, Texas to John Green Noblitt and Naomi Francis (Ramey). Polly was a member of Fairmont Park Baptist Church.

Polly retired as a receptionist for Intercontinental Terminal Company in La Porte. Previously she worked clerical positions for NASA, Lockheed, and University of Houston at Clear Lake.

She attended nursing school at Baptist School of Nursing in Houston, following a tradition started by her older sister, Mary Frances. Their father provided $100 for Mary Frances to attend nursing school in Houston on the condition that she would help a younger sister attend later by passing on the $100. Mary Frances provided $100 to Polly so that she could attend nursing school, which she did before marrying William F. Meyers in 1943.

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth F. Meyers and wife Judy, and John W. Meyers, both of La Porte; grandchildren, Jennifer J. (Meyers) Wilson and husband Mathew, Dustin S. Meyers and Erin E. A. Meyers; great-grandchildren, Jude M. Wilson and Leo P. Wilson; sister Mary Frances (Noblitt) Stokely; as well as many nieces and nephews, including nieces, Frances Jane Tinney, Carolyn Carter and nephew, Michael Rutherford. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that contributions in Polly’s memory be directed to: Sylvan Beach Depot Museum and Library (Bay Area Heritage Society) 604 Park, La Porte, Texas 77571 or the charity of one’s choice.
