Prajedis was born July 13th, 1949, in Santa Rosa, Tx. He was raised in Lyford, Tx. with the entire Garza family. Due to financial circumstances he had to leave school when he was 10 years old to help support the family as a migrant worker. His stature through the years made Daddy a very strong man.
At the age of 19, PJ was drafted into the Army. Again, due to family circumstance, he was Honorably Discharged and came back home to his loving wife and son.
After a few months, Joe packed up his family and moved to Houston, where they continue to live today.
He was a “jack of all trades” working at gas stations, the steel company, product salesman, freight driver/delivery man, and retired as a security officer.
Dad was a man of many names. Close family and friends knew him as Mico, Joe, PJ, Dad, Mr. Garza, Pop, Popo, Grandpa, Security Joe, Big Joe, Scratch Man, The Ghost, and the most favorite one from his children, Cadillac.
He loved to entertain family by singing his favorite songs and telling dirty jokes to anyone who would listen. Joe was a generous and loving man taking the shirt off his back to help others in need.
He was honored with a Certificate of Valor during his time as a security officer for courageously rescuing a family from an apartment fire. Joe’s wholesome character made lasting friendships. Dad will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was a self-made artist, craftsman, amateur inventor, and an awesome shade tree mechanic. Some of his creations included wood figurines, engravings, and steel name plates. He enjoyed fishing with family and loved his scratch tickets. And if you didn’t already know, Joe was a diehard Steel Curtain, Steeler Fan!!
Joe will be deeply missed by his sisters, San Juanita Flores, Norma Diaz, Bessie Ramirez, and brothers, Matias Armando Garza and Rogelio Garza. Also, by his loving and dedicated wife, Adelina Garza, sons, Prajedis J. Garza Jr., and Gabriel Garza (wife Esther C. Davila), daughters, Rita G Diosdado (husband, Marcos Diosdado), and Shannon G Martinez (husband, Rodolfo Martinez). And finally, his precious grandkids, Gabriel Garza II, Sydnee R. Alarcon, Alex X. Alarcon, Celeste Martinez, Cristian Martinez, Carissa Martinez, and Rita Diosdado.
Dad was preceded in death by Angelita Garza, Samuel Garza, Alveza G Noyola, Marcos Noyola, Juan Manuel Garza, Juan Alberto Garza, Concepcion Esparza, Sylvia Delgado, and Laura Ana Flores. May he be blessed with their greeting at the gates of Heaven.
Visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home, located at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas, 77505, on April 29, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Prajedis' life will take place at Grand View Funeral Home on April 30, 2025, starting at 10:00 am. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
