

He was born in Laredo, Texas on June 27, 1956. Rafael graduated from Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, Texas. While in high school that’s where he met the love of his life, Liz. They were high school sweethearts and were married on August 4, 1979.
He served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1980 as a Sergeant E5. He served 6 years from 1974 to 1980 and was stationed in Germany from 1975 to 1978. Rafael had careers in the cement and chemical industries. He worked for Kaizer for 10 years and worked for FMC and PeroxyChem for 27 years. He had a passion for the outdoors, fishing, hunting and playing softball. He was a coach for his son and his grandson’s baseball teams. He was a selfless man and would help anybody in need. If he was not helping anyone with their home and vehicle repairs he would be spending time with his family and friends that he loved so much.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years Liz Castillo; his only son, Anthony and his wife Vanessa; grandchildren, Hailey, Joe and Ava; Brothers, Joe Castillo and wife Elida and Ricardo Castillo and wife Janie; his sister, Mercedes Castillo and husband Juan; and nephew, Ricardo Jr. and nieces Yvonne and Micaela Castillo and Yvette Santellana.
