Robert was born in Mineola, Texas March 11, 1929, to mother Nancy Alexander (nee Holland) and father John Walker Alexander. He passed peacefully in his sleep on August 9, 2026, with his wife Lucretia Alexander (nee Ivie) of 64 years and son Scott Alexander by his side. During his 97 years on this planet, he lived a full life with countless memories.
Robert was known for his love of music, movies, and the printed word. After moving to Houston as a young teen, his first job was a paper route, which accidentally turned into a job in the printing department. He briefly managed a movie theater before being drafted for the Korean War where he served as a telegraph officer for a tank unit in Seoul. Upon returning to the States, Robert went back to the paper and worked in composition at The Houston Post for more than 40 years until it closed in 1993.
He loved listening to music and attending concerts. He was constantly reading books and watching old movies. He was a formidable match for anyone in trivia on these topics. He passed this love of arts to his family.
He leaves behind his wife Lucretia Alexander. Children Laura Magers, Julie Sykes, and Scott Alexander. Grandchildren Brooke Wilder and Aeryn Grindle. Great-grandchildren Luke Sykes, Elliott Sykes, and Archer Wilder. Robert is preceded in death by his grandson Gregory Alexander Sykes. Robert was the last surviving sibling of the Alexander family. He now joins his brothers and sisters, Marie, John, Doris, Elmer (Al), and James (Jimmy).
Each year that we were graced with his presence was another “edition” of his paper that we called his life. So we now say goodbye with his “Final Edition.”
