Robert “Bob” Charles Hasson, Sr., 94, of Houston, Texas, quietly promoted into peace on the morning of Friday, January 10, 2025. His beloved wife Ginger, of 69 years, was holding his hand and he was surrounded by loved ones, in his home, the place he had resided for 58 years.
Bob was born in Houston, Texas, to William and Marie Hasson during the Great Depression. He grew up on a small farm near the area now known as the Verne Cox Center. His early years were spent picking strawberries, fishing, milking cows, and stealing watermelons from the neighbors. He attended Pasadena schools at Genoa Elementary, Jackson Intermediate and eventually graduated from Pasadena High School.
Being a very driven and tenacious person, determined to get the most from life, Bob put himself through college and at age 28, received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Houston. During this time, he met his “angel” Mary Virginia Cobb Blackmon on a blind date. “I married him because he was so good looking,” she would later tell her children. They married at Genoa Baptist Church, on November 24, 1955, and during their first 13 years of marriage, had four children, Sandra, Cindy, Wendy and Robby.
Bob worked for Traveler’s Insurance as a Claims Specialist in Longshore cases for more than 25 years. His family describes him as a “self-made” man, excelling in such things as electronics, wood working, auto mechanics, card games, chess competitions, and a master model airplane craftsman and operator. Basically, Bob was a “Jack-of all–Trades,” never shying away from new challenges or adventures. He loved cooking a big pot of his famous chili, cruising and flying all over the world with his Angel, taking long summer road trips with his family, going to the Alley Theatre and to the University of Houston football games.
He was an avid reader, in all genres, enjoyed a good cigar while tinkering in his workshop and was wisely frugal with their money. He set very high expectations for his children, especially when it came to their education and Christian upbringing. Bob taught his children good work ethic by example and disciplined them without any rules bending, to help prepare them to be responsible and productive adults.
Robert is preceded in death by his beloved son Robert Charles Hasson, Jr.; his parents William A. and Marie Hasson, Sr.; his brother William A. Hasson, Jr.; his sister-in-law Thelma; and his nephew William A. Hasson, III.

A group of gracious caregivers assisted “Pa Pa” with very special care, comfort and love in his home, during the last two years of his life. A heartfelt thank you to Nina Miller, granddaughter, Sarah Rivera, Lupita Madrigal, Ana Rodriguez and Diana Ibarra for ensuring his last days were filled with comforting love.
Bob had a larger-than-life presence which will be missed terribly. His family is reassured he now lives in Paradise, pain and worry free. His Angel will be well taken care of in his absence. We love you.
