Roland Duane Hurst, 54, of Pasadena, Texas, was born on August 17, 1966 in Odessa, Texas to David and Frances Hurst and entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 12, 2020. Roland grew up in Odessa, Texas and lived there until the age of eight. He attended Deer Park High School and graduated with the class of 1984.

After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served from 1986 to 2006. There, he served during the Gulf War and began his career as an Aviation Electricians Mate for the U.S. Navy. Throughout his career in the military, he obtained the rank of AE1 and received the Navy Achievement Medal; he went on to retire honorably in 2006 after 21 years of service. Throughout his life, he lived in Texas, California, Virginia, and Japan. Once he retired from the military, he began a new career in clean energy.

Roland was married to Catalina Thompson-Hurst for 23 years. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. He was a man of faith, and believed that with God, all things are possible.

Roland’s greatest joy was becoming a husband and father. Among the important events in his life was his retiring at 40 and being able to start a completely new career in energy. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and racquetball.

He is preceded in death by his father, David Hurst and mother, Frances Hurst. He is survived by his wife, Catalina M. Thompson-Hurst; son, Corey N. Williams; and daughters, Cassidy I. Hurst and Chloe A. Hurst.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 10:00am at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church.
