In Loving Memory of Ruben R. Amezcua
May 15, 1984 – October 27, 2026
Ruben R. Amezcua, of Deer Park, Texas, was born on May 15, 1984, in Guadalajara, Mexico, to Ruben and Eleuteria Amezcua.
Known affectionately during his childhood as "Rubencito," Ruben spent his early years in California, where he lived from 1988 to 1993, before moving to Texas at the age of nine. It was in Texas that he grew up, building the foundation for the man so many would come to know and love. He was a good son, a dedicated student, and a young man whose natural abilities, determination, and strong work ethic would eventually shape his career and the life he worked so hard to build.
Ruben discovered an exceptional talent for welding, becoming a naturally gifted, top-tier, ambidextrous welder. His skill, precision, and dedication set him apart. Never one to settle or stop challenging himself, he continued pursuing opportunities to better himself professionally, eventually venturing into the quality control and pipe inspection field. Whatever he put his mind to, he approached with pride, determination, and an unmatched work ethic.
Ruben was a man who could be described in many ways: hardworking, strong-willed, determined, stubborn, and fiercely protective of the people he loved. He was a provider through and through, someone who took pride in working hard and making sure his family was taken care of. He thrived under pressure, never backed down from a challenge, and had a way of finding his strength when things got tough.
But those who knew Ruben best knew there was much more to him than his tough exterior. He was funny, playful, and had his own unmistakable way of showing affection—sometimes a little rough around the edges, but always full of love. At home, he was laid-back, steady, and a calming presence. He was his family's sense of protection and security, the person whose presence alone could make everything feel okay.
Ruben had a natural ability to keep up with the times. He was always aware of changing trends, new styles, music, and whatever was making its way into the culture. He enjoyed staying current and had a way of making even the latest trends his own. Among friends and family, he was known for his unique sense of humor, quick wit, and entertaining personality. He could turn an ordinary conversation into a moment of laughter and had a way of keeping those around him entertained. His humor, personality, and unmistakable character made him someone people genuinely enjoyed being around. He didn't just keep up with the times; he brought his own flavor to them.
Among his wife's cousins, Ruben eventually earned—or perhaps more accurately, gave himself—the nickname "RTG," short for "Ruben the Great." It was a self-appointed title that, fittingly, suited him just right. It reflected his humor, confidence, and larger-than-life personality that made him uniquely Ruben. Whether he was being called Rubencito or RTG, he had a way of leaving an impression that people would not soon forget.
Ruben carried a deep sense of pride in his Mexican roots and the heritage that shaped him. Though born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and raised in California and Texas, he embraced every part of his journey and the cultures that influenced the man he became. He had a special appreciation for Houston's urban lifestyle, its culture, and its music. Whether cruising around town or simply enjoying his day, Ruben enjoyed his hip-hop with the volume turned all the way up. He was unapologetically himself, comfortable in his own style, and never one to follow anyone else's mold. He carried his roots with pride while making his own mark wherever life took him.
Outside of work, Ruben enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He loved grilling, cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and sharing good food with the people he loved. He enjoyed discovering new restaurants, spending quality time with his family, and finding reasons to celebrate life's moments, both big and small. More recently, he had developed an interest in plants, enjoying the opportunity to learn something new and nurture something as it grew. He appreciated experiences, good food, family gatherings, and making memories along the way.
Ruben also had a thoughtful and open-minded outlook on life and the universe. He believed in a higher source of power or creator, though he did not identify with traditional religious beliefs. He was open to the possibility that life extended beyond what we can see or understand, including the idea that our souls may have experienced other lives and roles before this one. He welcomed different possibilities about the afterlife and never felt the need to limit his understanding of what might exist beyond this world.
Above all, Ruben was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished son, and a brother. His greatest pride was the family he worked so hard to provide for and protect. His life was defined not only by what he accomplished, but by the love he gave, the sacrifices he made, the strength he demonstrated, and the memories he created.
Ruben is survived by his loving wife, Areli Muñoz; his beloved children, Brielle and Levi Amezcua; his parents, Ruben and Eleuteria Amezcua; and his siblings, Cindy Sanchez and Michael Amezcua.
Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, the impact of his life will continue through the people who loved him, the lessons he left behind, and the countless memories that will forever be cherished.
He built with his hands, provided with his strength, and loved in his own unmistakable way.
Ruben's journey was uniquely his own. From Guadalajara to California, from growing up in Texas to building a life and family in the Houston area, every chapter helped shape the man he became.
Whether remembered as Rubencito, RTG, husband, father, son, or brother, Ruben will forever be remembered as one of a kind.
Ruben the Great. Loved beyond words, missed beyond measure, and never forgotten.
