Rudy Holloway of Pasadena passed away on Dec. 5th after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 3, 1939 in Houston, he was raised in Pasadena by parents Harry and Mary Holloway. Shortly after the clock struck midnight of his 17th birthday he was sworn in for his career in the Army. His 20-year military career took him to posts in North Carolina, San Antonio, Germany, and France. He served honorably for three tours in the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star. During his time in the Army he met and married Martha Cole and had two children, Mitchell and April. After the unexpected death of his wife, he continued to raise his two children until his retirement from the military in 1976.
In 1977 Rudy reunited with and married his childhood sweetheart, Sandra Skidmore. They raised their blended family in LaPorte while he worked as a welder for Houston, Lighting and Power. He coached for LaPorte Girls’ Softball Association, was President of his neighborhood HOA, and was an active member of the Pasadena Elks Lodge. Known for his leadership abilities, Rudy eventually joined the Pasadena American Legion Post 521 where he served twice as Post Commander. He frequently helped organize events, enjoyed cooking for post BBQs and was often seen mowing the large lawn there as well. He was a tireless volunteer and was always willing to help someone who needed it. He will be lovingly remembered for his great sense of humor, his impressive ability to get things done, his enjoyment of tinkering in his garage, and the love he had for his family.
Preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Rudy also lost his adored daughter April Michelle in 1989, as well as his brother Harry Holloway in 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra Holloway of Pasadena, son Mitchell Holloway and wife Laura of Houston, stepson Clay Herndon and wife Liz of Sulphur, LA, and stepdaughter Cathy Davis and husband Mark of Homer, AK, siblings Gladys Ables and spouse Sonny, Grace Sanford and Juanita Walters.
