

Russell was born in 1947 to Herbert H. Nentwich and Anna Mae Bauer in rural Bexar County, Texas. He grew up in San Antonio, Texas was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church on January 14, 1956 at the age of 9 and entered into military service on June 23, 1967 at the age of 19. He spent 11 months and 27 days serving his country in Vietnam, where he earned several medals of honor including two Purple Hearts and an Army Commendation Medal- Marksman, Expert M-60. He remained a member of the US Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in June of 1973. After his discharge from the military, he and his family moved to Pasadena, Texas where he worked as a Pipefitter until his retirement in 2008.
Russell was a kind and thoughtful man who enjoyed collecting treasures from resale shops, garage sales and pawn shops to share with his loved ones and friends. He would be so proud of his finds, and sharing them brought him great joy. He was also quite proud of his country and his military service. Most days he could be seen wearing his Vietnam Veteran cap. He loved his cat Robin dearly and she was his closest companion in his later years.
Russell’s hobbies included saltwater fishing, reading comics, drawing, and collecting guns, knives and other weapons. He enjoyed long walks and could often be seen riding his bike around town. He spent countless hours watching movies at Hollywood Theater and made friends at several eating establishments around Pasadena and Deer Park. Cooking was not his hobby but, if he was cooking, it was barbeque chicken. He was always looking forward to his next visit with family in San Antonio.
He will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Jenni Fair, grandchildren Kaylie Lively, her husband Zachary Lively, Ryan Foster, Patience Nentwich and Payton Fair; great-grandchildren Clayton Lively, Preston Lively, Eden Foster, and Blossom Nentwich. He is survived by his brother Roy Nentwich, his wife Martha Nentwich and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Anna Mae, father Herber, Sisters Alice and Joyce, brothers Robert and Donny.
Visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home, Yellow Rose Chapel, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. A Celebration of Russell's Life will begin at 10:00 am.
