Sean was my first primary flight instructor at Pinnacle Aviation Academy in Carlsbad (KCRQ). He was also my aviation mentor, and friend. We enjoyed many hours in the cockpit together and Sean was an excellent flight instructor. We timed our lessons for lunch together at French Valley (F70) as often as we could. The last time we flew together was to Catalina Airport (KAVX) in September of 2008, where we enjoyed buffalo burgers. I already had my license by then so instead of instruction we just enjoyed each other’s company. When we took off from KAVX we flew low over the west side of the island before turning back to KCRQ. It was a beautiful sunny day, the waves were crashing on the shore, and I remember Sean saying “This is what flying is all about.”  The last time we spoke he was trying to decide what direction to take in his professional life. I am so glad he made it to the “big leagues” before he was taken from us. I will always remember Sean, and I still hear his voice in my headset every time I fly. 

A few years back Sean became my roommate, and very quickly my friend. We grew together as I watched him slowly form his family with Tatiana from loved one to wife., and then a new addition in his son Josef. Samantha was always part of his forming family circle. We talked often and deeply as time evolved and I openly shared my thoughts with him concerning all of the issues in his growing responsibilities.  I will never forget his joy and wonder upon his telling me that Tatiana was with child, or United had finally came through, We then had one of our many tactical conversations about protocall and the many upcoming changes in his life to address. I was happy to be involved in many of the facets he would share with me upon arriving home in Houston whatever the hour. Sean was a great communicator, always letting me know when he would be arriving just in case I had a date. He often called me Don Juan jokingly as my weekends often meant the clicker and my little rat terrier dog Mercedes who he always gave attention to. To this day she still jumps out of bed if the wind rattles the front door at night in anticipation of greeting him. She will never have closure, nor myself. There is so much more than can be said here about Sean and my knowing him and his life.  I could not work out the logistics and expense in getting to Oceanside. Though important to me it was not meant to be. To Seans family know this, I loved him like a brother and miss him terribly. Take Care all.  Don Dalton and Mercedes

I was Sean's English teacher at Rancho Buena Vista high school. Teachers do not remember every student over the years, but I do remember Sean. He had the most beautiful eyes with the longest eyelashes I've ever seen on a young man. I was very sad to hear of the tragic loss of this fine young man. He obviously made a success of his life which always makes teachers very proud for whatever small role we may have played in that success. As a mother of adult children, I can only imagine the pain of losing one so young. I did nt know this young man, but the pictures tell a story of a life that was loved.
Although the passing of time may lessen the grief somewhat, it will never be completely erased until we experience the fulfillment of God’s promise of a resurrection (Acts 24:15) and our children and loved ones are brought back to us and “death is no more” (Revelation 21:4)
Please accept my sincere condolences on the untimely loss of this loved one.

May the Peace of God that surpasses all thought be with family and friends in these difficult moments.
