Third generation Texas native Stephen Clay Herndon, 53, died on May 31st at his home in Sulfur, LA. Stephen (known as Clay), was born on July 8th,1966 on Galveston Island to Michael Herndon and Sandra Holloway.
Upon graduating from Ball High School in 1984, Clay began his adult life as a soldier serving in the U.S. Army. Shortly after being honorably discharged, he set out on his lifelong career of working as a chemical plant operator, which would ultimately fuel his motivation to become the provider and fatherly figure that he came to be. Clay was a dedicated family man, whose drive and passion for life seemed to stem solely from his love and dedication to his family. This was demonstrated not only through his first marriage, but also his second, in which he reunited with his first love, Elizabeth Herndon, and adopted two sons; Daniel Phillips and Isaac Crochet.
For Clay's closest loved ones, it was well known that his greatest concern was the happiness of others. It was this concern that would allow him to create in his life the greatest accomplishment known to him; his family.
Clay is preceded in death by his father Michael Herndon, stepfather Rudy Holloway, and stepsister April Holloway. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Herndon, mother Sandra Holloway, siblings; Cathy Davis and husband Mark, Mitchell Holloway and wife Laura. His children include his daughter Amber Johnson and husband Joshua, Stephen Herndon Jr, Michael Herndon and wife Mary, Daniel Phillips, and Isaac Crochet. Clay had three grandchildren; Skyler Herndon, Jackson Johnson and Thatcher Johnson.
