Thomas Cervantes (TC) a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away on March 8, 2025 at the age of 63. A man of boundless generosity and kindness, he lived his life with an open heart, a quick wit, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.
Born on March 7, 1962 in Corpus Christi Texas, Thomas spent decades in the restaurant industry, where he wasn’t just a boss—he was a warm presence, a mentor, and the kind of person who made everyone feel like family. Whether it was a coworker having a bad day or a stranger in need, he never hesitated to offer a helping hand, sometimes even the shirt off his back.
As an avid reader, he found joy in the pages of a good book, often getting lost in stories that fueled his curiosity and wisdom. His passion for knowledge extended well beyond literature; he was a lover of American and world history, always eager to share fascinating historical insights. But when he wasn’t exploring the past or reading, you could find him cheering on his beloved Houston Astros and Houston Texans, always loyal through the wins and the heartbreaks.
Thomas was also the heart of every holiday season, hosting the most unforgettable Christmas parties, where laughter, love, and incredible food filled the air. He could cook up a storm, filling tables with dishes that brought people together and made everyone feel at home. His world famous prime rib and crème brulee will go down in the record books.
More than anything, Thomas was devoted to his family. He was a loving and supportive father whose unwavering dedication to his children never ceased. He was their biggest champion, always there with words of encouragement, wisdom, and love. But perhaps nothing brought him more joy than being Popo to his beloved grandson, Aric. Popo poured his heart into making sure Aric knew how deeply he was loved. From sharing stories to watching sports together, every moment with his family was one he cherished.
His greatest gift was laughter. He had a knack for finding humor in any situation and making sure everyone around him felt welcome and loved. His presence could light up a room, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void.
Thomas preceded into internal rest after his mother Leonarda Smithwick, father John Smithwick and his pride and joy, son, Alexander Cervantes. He is survived by daughters Salina and Brionne and grandson Aric, brothers Danny, Rick, John, and sister Monique. Sister-in-laws Dorothy, Danielle, and Maria and brother-in-law Billy. Also survived by nephews Daniel, David, Ian, Gabriel, Billy and Christian and niece Victoria. Along with countless other family and friends who were lucky enough to know him. His legacy of kindness, humor, generosity, and an enduring love for history will live on in the many lives he touched.
Rest easy, TC. Elvis has left the building.
A visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home, located at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas, 77505, on March 17, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Thomas' life will begin at 2:00 pm.
