Wilmer Raleigh Alford “Bill” passed from this life on March 19, 2012 in Deer Park, TX. He was born on August 1, 1918 in Bellwood, LA to William and Vertie Alford. Bill was one of six children, and grew up in Louisiana. In 1942 Bill joined the Army Air Corps. at the age of 20. He served in the China Burma India Theatre in the 530th Fighter Squadron during WWII. Upon his discharge from the military, Bill attended North Western and other career schools and studied engineering while working part time in a machine shop. He began his career with Shell Refinery in Deer Park in 1948 where he remained employed until his retirement in 1982. After his retirement he purchased a home on Toledo Bend Lake where he loved fishing on the Sabine River. To know Bill was to love him, and his memory will be cherished.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 37 years Marion Alford; brother, Hoyt Alford; sisters, Lois Leach, Gracie Mae Leach, Faye Honeycutt; and step-granddaughter, Debbie Kirkland. He is survived by sons, Brad Alford and his wife Dee, Ross Alford and his wife Suzie; daughter, Kari Hlavinka and her husband Joe; granddaughter, Katlyn Alford; brother, Bobby Alford and his wife Sara; step-grandchildren, Sharon And Daryl Lang and Cindy Hlavinka; step-great grandchildren, Amanda and Dalton Segall, and Zoe Kirkland.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 10:00-10:30 a.m. at Sunset United Methodist Church 709 Allendale Pasadena, TX 77502, with a Celebration of Life to begin at 10:30 a.m. For those desiring to do so, Memorial Contributions in honor of Bill may be made to the Texas Commission of the Blind.
