Born February 26, 1927 in Beach, MS to Joseph Azzie and Stella Mae Powell, she grew up in Forkville, MS. “Wini” was baptized at the age of 14 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. She graduated Salutatorian of the class of 1944, seeking employment in Jackson with AT&T, which became a 34-year career in the accounting department. In 1945 she met and married William Harold Vice. They moved to Houston, TX in 1957 with their three young daughters. She and William were founding members of South Post Oak Baptist Church, Houston. In 1993 they moved to Pasadena and downsized due to William’s failing health. She nursed him until his death in 1998.
Wini was an accomplished woman of many talents and interests. Shopping and dressing fashionably was a passion. She also loved reading, gardening and decorating, cooking, traveling and spending time with family. Her favorite music was Country and Southern Gospel. Friendship was important to her. She always loved to play cards or dominoes with friends and family. Laughing and having fun was a delight to her. She loved to talk about God’s word and share the gospel. She ministered to those around her in her retirement home even when she lost her sight.
She is survived by her sister Polly; daughters Lynn Dewey, Amy Morris and Renee White; grandchildren Dara and Kevin Dewey, Phillip and Brian Richardson, and Amanda, David and Alec White.
