I had a one on one experience with Jazlyn once when we headed to get lunch together. It was such a memorable conversation of just life itself. She was one of the most caring, and intelligent women I’ve ever met. She was wise upon her years. I feel lucky to have spent those thirty minutes with her and I adored her and the person she was. 🙏

Jazlyn was such a kind, down-to-earth friend that made morning practices brighter, classes more enjoyable, and time with her well spent. She was such a loving soul that will forever be remembered for her contagious laugh and her generous heart.

Jazlyn has gone to soon but will never be forgotten! She was beautiful inside and out! She was kind hearted, fun, free-spirited and full of energy. She was such a sweet girl and was loved by all who knew her! I enjoyed being her kindergarten teacher and watched her develop into a wonderful young lady! I miss you and I love you sweet angel! Rest in heaven until we meet again!❤️🙏🏽

Jazlyn always lit up the room when I saw her. She had such a great sense of humor and was such an amazing and caring young lady. I will miss our conversations. She had a heart of gold.

Me and Jaz used to hang out all the time when we were little kids she was like the big sister I never had we were sooo close I never wanted to leave her house because she was the only one I could be silly with I can’t believe me childhood friend is gone we haven’t talked in years. Jazzy your dearly miss although we haven’t talked in so long I wish I could have kept in contact with you and I’m so sorry 

Rachel and Brad, I have wanted to put something into words for my sweet granddaughter but no words would come. 
Today I came across a poem that makes me think of Jaz , and I hope it brings you both comfort. This poem is by Hannah Szenes and the original is entitled “Yesh Kocharim” which translated means “There are stars”:

I remembered Jazlyn from 4th grade when we went to school together. Her and I became good friends and I thought about her today.  I was devastated to find out about her passing as I remember her as someone with a bright and vibrant personality. I send out my greatest condolences to your family.

Jazlyns's legacy drifted into our lives around 7pm today, in Byron GA. Our family is honored to be touched by her memories. Though we have never met, it has been a joy getting to know Jazlyn through her friends and family. Jazlyn and her family are in our thoughts and prayers.

From eighth grade to senior year Jaz was always there for me. She constantly made me laugh. Jaz was the person who would hype me up or put me down a few notches if I ever needed it. She was a true friend that will be missed and I am forever grateful that she was in my life no matter how short of a time. I'll always love her and never forget the lasting memories we had. 

Jazlyn was an amazing girl, she was the sweetest and most selfless person. I remember when we would be at lunch she would always bring all these different candies for us to try. We would go to math to get help together sometimes and then laugh about how bad we did on the tests and quizzes. Jazlyn made me laugh anytime I was with her, she always managed to put a smile on my face no matter what. She will be missed forever and I hope there is comfort for everyone who has been apart of her life big or small.

Jazlyn, what a privilege to have known you and to have been family in your far-too-short life. You were always a light in our presence- your humor, wit, and sarcasm were second to none. But the beauty of you radiated from your soul- kindness, goodness, and love. Watching you fight a brutal battle with cancer the past 4 months was devastating, yet even that you faced with an unbelievable strength (and you managed to make us laugh time and again). While we are heartbroken without you here with us, we know you are with our Heavenly Father, whole and free of pain. That will have to sustain us until we see your beautiful smile again. You were destined for greatness- we were all excited to see the college and career path you would choose. As it turns out, you were called for an even greater purpose; your legacy is to inspire and motivate all of us who loved you. May each of us live every day to the fullest, share our love with family and friends, and, of course, always find humor even on the darkest days. Jaz, your life was a wonderful gift and a beautiful example of love. We love and miss you.

My darling beautiful Jazlyn my first grandchild I will miss you so much now and forever. I know you are no longer suffering and in a better place  but  I will miss you and your smile my love and I will always remember when you came  home to Houston and got in bed to sleep with us. You asking me  are you ok and then trying to make me laugh. You calling and asking if I was taking my medication. I will miss you coming and sitting on my lap or just taking hold of my hand while we sat  close . Your beautiful caring spirit always wanting  family around excepting everyone of them for who they were never asking anyone to change .  I have so many wonderful memories of you and I will cherish them  like gold till it is my time to leave this earth and see you again . I love you.

My sweet Jazzy Fay... Words cannot express the emotions that I am feeling. You were always a light in the family. A sweet smile, a goofy comment... Our family is forever altered, but you are in a better place. That is the only thing that gives me joy right now. Your personality and sweet smile were always contagious. You are forever in my heart, little cousin. I love you to the moon and back again, as Granny says. Until we meet again, I will try to emulate your  infectious joy and caring attitude. Since I only knew you for the time we had on guard and my first try outs you never failed to make everyone laugh. I never had a dull moment with you. We always danced and act a clown everyday we see each other but the thing is she always keep us laughing, her smiling always was a warm soul to our hearts. Words can’t explain how much it hurts right now to just think about a good friend has left us but we know your not suffering anymore but we also know you are looking over us making sure were okay and doing well. I love you and miss you soooo much beautiful girl ! wish I could have seen you for the last time and laughed all day with each other. i love and miss you so much and it still doesn’t feel like you are gone but seeing you made it sink in and i’m so thankful to your mom for giving me the opportunity to see you one last time. you never failed to make me smile and and cry laughing even on my worst days. you had your whole life to live and had so much in your future but god said it was your time and we have to respect that even if we didn’t want you to go so soon. i know you hated when people cried and i’m sorry that you have to look on us and see us crying about you being gone but i hope you can just bear with us and soon we can all laugh about all the fun times we had together, i know you will be laughing with us. me and anita miss you more than anything right now best friend. see you soon <3.

The Fontenot family sends condolences and love.  Remembering Jaz’s smile warms my heart. Seeing her and all of the kids in Florida was a highlight for me.

Jazlyn was such a beautiful person inside and out! You know the moment you met her that you knew you were going to like her. With an easy smile and non-judgemental spirit, she made friends easily and quickly. A soul gone too soon and now lighting up heaven, we will remember her always!!

If you knew Jazz, you knew that she was always the funniest girl in the room. When I think of the times in my life when I laughed so I hard I couldn’t breathe, many of them were spent with her. That time in Disney World when we got a little too rowdy in our room (I’ll spare you the details). That time in Ireland when she looked at a dumpster and said “Aww, how cute!” That time at practice when she threw a flag so high she hit the gym ceiling. I miss her, a lot. But despite how devastated I am at her loss, it’s impossible for me to not smile when I think of all the good times we shared. I love you Jazlyn, and I know that this isn’t goodbye forever. I can’t wait to see you again.

I am praying for Jazlyn's loved ones and family members every day! I remember that on the first day of color guard clinic that she was the first senior that spoke to me. She made great conversation! Jazlyn was right beside me in the color guard block and I know for a fact that I wouldn't have survived band camp without her spunky and hilarious personality. I always really appreciated the constructive criticism that she gave me. The way that she delivered her suggestions definitely improved my skills. I love how she always stayed true to her individuality and I will miss her very much. Rest in peace Jazlyn and fly high! <3 

Dear Jazlyn, 
Wow. I miss you so much, girl! You were so witty and had the absolute best comebacks i’ve ever heard. Every time I talked to you I ended up with a smile on my face. You were always there when I needed to talk to you and I appreciate that so much! You were and are so loved by everyone you met. We have made so many memories that will last forever. We tried out for guard together and I still remember you crying afterwards saying there was no way you made it and I hugged you and I said “if you didn’t make it then I didn’t either” and look what happened. Then we did winter guard together and it was me, you and Lo on flag with that first prayer toss that I couldn’t ever get right. That was so much fun along with you being my bus buddy in Ireland and getting stuck in NYC together. We had so much fun at football games and sleepovers and parties and I will never forget those moments or your smile. Thank you for being such an amazing friend of mine. I love you, girl. You will be forever missed.

We all miss you like crazy! I can still hear that laugh and see that smile. You lit up every room the moment you entered. Even when you couldn’t walk with me to math everyday, you still put a smile on my face when you texted me to not fail math. Small things like that were why everyone loved you. You were so encouraging, determined, and strong. You set a great example for everyone around you. Love you! See you later girl:)

I don’t know where to begin to tell you how much I miss you. You were and forever will be the very best friends I will ever have. Our friendship meant everything to me, always. You have always been the one person that understood the introverted side of me that no one else completely understood. We were so alike in that way. You were the only person that I could just hang around all the time and never get tired of. You were my person. We would do everything together. You’ve always been there for me and even if you didn’t know what to say, whatever you would tell me would make me feel better. You could always cheer me up. There is so much I wish I could tell you.  I think about you all the time and think of how you would laugh at me or be there for me or just comment on something dumb I do. My heart hurts thinking about how we will never be able to get yogurt mountain again, but it gives me peace to know you are happy and at home in heaven.  I look forward to the day I get to see you again! I am so proud to have been able to have been your best friend and for you to have been mine. You meant the world to me! Jaz was a very dear friend of mine and she will be missed immensely. She touched the hearts of many and will live on through memories. She was kind-hearted and was always there for me no matter what. She was a great friend. Her goofy personality and sarcastic mouth could always cheer me up. Everyday at school she never passed up the chance to make lighthearted jokes about me which was the highlight of my day. Her beautiful smile will be missed by all.

Jazlyn was the most kind and loving girl I have ever known. Her smile was contagious. She lit up a room when she walked in. She loved so genuinely. Jaz taught me the importance of being myself and living in the present. I send my prayers and love to Jazlyn's family. Your beautiful girl will never be forgotten. 

Even though I’ve only known jazlyn for three years, it feels longer. She was like a sister to me, even though we jokingly called one another cousin. Her spirit, smile and laugher could brighten up a dark room. She showed up for me on many occasions and I will always hold those memories of her near and dear to my heart. I wish I could hear her voice or see her beautiful smile one more time but I know she’s in the arms of the Lord. I’ve gained a guardian angel and will never forget her. As Rachel said, she was a beautiful young lady. When I was around, Jaz was quiet, pleasant, yet engaged. I remember at her little sister's birthday party, she smashed cake on Brinley's face!  all in jest--to get back to little sis for pushing her in the pool. She was fun-loving. we all laughed about that. Remembering Jaz makes me smile.  She did that to you--made you feel warm, accepted.

To the spunky Jaz...... who will be forever young and forever missed. May Jesus hold you in his sweet embrace. 

You were only in ours lives for short time. Too short! I am so grateful for the time we did have. We loved having you around, your spirit was so contagious. You always made us laugh. We miss you so much, and will forever be missed. I won’t be able to look at a goldfish without thinking of you. Love you forever.

I will always remember Jaz's wonderful sense of humor and love for her friends and family.  I had the honor of working with Jaz as her middle school counselor and also as a staff member for the VHHS Marching Band, something that I am truly thankful for.  There wasn't a day at an early morning band rehearsal, football game, or competition that Jaz didn't brighten my day.  She always made an effort to tell me "hello" or to make a joke to make me laugh.  I will always remember the times that we had and the smile on her face.  Bob the T-Rex will be a lasting memory I will always cherish.

After lunch, around 12:40 each day, there was always this fun, playful voice that upon entering the classroom would say, "Mr. Mundt, how is your day going?"  Or, "Mr. Mundt, did you try the chicken today?"  Or, "Mr. Mundt, you're going to delay this quiz right?"  It did not matter how talkative the class before was or how short my lunchtime felt, Jazlyn put an emphatic smile on my face every single day at the beginning of her period.  From the first day of her senior year when she told me her name was like the style of music, I knew she was someone special.  

Jaz, you made such an impact during the all-too-few months you were in my class.  My heart is absolutely broken but somewhere within there is comfort in knowing that such an extraordinary young lady is now in such an extraordinary place.  Your gracious spirit and wonderful smile will always be cherished.

My family and I are praying for Jazlyns family and loved ones every day we can!! I just wanted to share a memory i have with her, she was such a bright and loving girl and everytime i was around Jaz i was always smiling!! I will never forget the times where she would walk with me in the halls and help me find my way!! And her always making me laugh when i was rushing to a class!! She is forever loved and will forever be missed!! Miss you sweet girl!!

Where do I even start? I have been trying to write down something about Jazlyn, but I never feel like it's good enough. Jazlyn is such a light to so many people. Her quick wit and sarcastic ability to make almost every situation hilarious. Oh how I will miss spending time with her and just listening to her different ways to make me laugh and not take things serious. She didn't seem to like serious discussions. She loved to make things awkward in our car trips. She loved telling my youngest child things he could say to friends or teachers at school. It was almost always something he definitely couldn't say. She would crack herself up. I have very strong faith that I will see her beautiful face again. She didn't know how gorgeous she was or how many people she touched. I know that her amazing sweet spirit lives on. I am comforted and I am at peace that she is no longer suffering. When I think of Jazlyn missing out on her life after 18 on this earth, my heart aches and is shattered. I have been distraught for her angel of a mother, Rachel. Oh how I wish I could take this pain from you. Jazlyn was so heroic in her fight to live another day to be with her family and friends. She was so much more than strong and fearless. It was an insurmountable feat to see the fight she lived with each day from her cancer diagnosis. I don't know how she did it. I know she was doing it for those she loved. She was selfless in her pursuit to give them as much time as she could. I know she is truly missed by our whole family. Jazlyn lived an amazing life. I was with her on two school trips that were so much fun. I am so grateful for those memories that I have of her. Jazlyn rode in my carpool for years and I am so grateful for the true friend she was to Megan. Jazlyn was like a daughter to me. I cannot stop crying, but I know she wouldn't want me to. Go fly high sweet Jazlyn, I will see you again. 

I remember first meeting Jaz in Color Guard. She made me laugh so hard and was so positive. I remember winter guard with her and having the best time. She was always called out for her tosses being too high. She was my roommate during Ireland and I remember her constantly singing the Justin Bieber vine “you can have it all flowers cards and candy heyyy.” I spent a lot of time with Jazlyn in our double math class together with Mrs. Kaiser. We bonded over being horrible at math and hating the unit circle and all it’s many parts. We would always walk together to the vending machine and would mess around in the hallway. I’ll never forget all the memories I’ve had with Jazlyn. These are only the watered down versions. Jazlyn was one of the funniest people I’ve ever had the honor of meeting. I love you, Jaz. Thank you for absolutely everything you did for me. I’ll miss you forever. Rest easy, girl. 

I met Jazlyn in my AP Spanish class last year. I’m in my first year of college now, and moved directly after graduation, so hearing this news came as a huge shock to me. Because we were both in the marching band, we tended to work together on various class projects. What I remember most fondly about her was that whenever we had a show or competition, if she spotted me on the sidelines, she would always greet me and share something encouraging about my solo in the show. Even though we didn’t know each other very well, she was always so intentional about acknowledging me. Unfortunately, that is all I can offer here, but that alone is all I need to know that she was truly a kind person.
