Samuel F. Selwood, 76 of Penn Yan entered the gates of larger life, peacefully at home on June 3. This good man was born on January 16, 1939 in Ilion, NY to Helen Graham Selwood and S. Folsom Selwood. While at Union College he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and enjoyed the friendship of his brothers throughout the years. After graduating he began his career in insurance claims and eventually retired from Caliber (FedEx) in Akron, Ohio as the Risk Manager in 1997. He then moved to the house he had finished on Seneca Lake and began to pursue seriously his lifetime interests in archery and hunting, while continuing his woodworking. He especially enjoyed his ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) friends and working on the archery course at the Duck Club. He had truly enjoyed his 26 years in Penn Yan.
In those years, he took pride in his work on the Torrey Town Planning Board and in helping to construct the columbarium at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where he will find his earthly resting place.
He is survived by Pat, his wife of 53 years, daughter Michele Shaar, son-in-law, Tom, their two boys Hasan and Mark Shaar, his two sisters Joan Annutto(John) and Diane Williams (Steve Newton), as well as nieces and nephews.
Samuel’s funeral service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Penn Yan. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, or Ontario-Yates Hospice. Both have given him and his family excellent and loving care in these last weeks.
