In the early 1950’s, Aida worked in the United States, where she taught herself English by reading cookbooks that helped her begin her culinary adventure, pleasing all who tasted her delicious creations. Aida accidentally ended up in Austin in 1957, where she met the love of her life, Henry. They were married and have been together ever since. They soon started a family with René-Miguel being the first son and Mario the second.
She worked as a housekeeper, nanny, and cook. Her cooking was second to none, and you could taste the love in every bite. She worked for numerous families in Austin, but the longest for Carter and Janet Christie, who treated her and her family like their own.
She was actively involved in helping others through numerous charitable organizations as well as independently. She was also a devout Catholic.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Maria Guelarte Liranza and Gavino Rodriguez Columbie; and her sister, Esther Bagby.
She is survived by her husband, Henry; sons, René-Miguel Cortinas (wife Anne), and Mario Cortinas.
The family would like to thank New Century Hospice, Elaina Reilly, Shirley Esparaza, and Kenda Flaks for the care and compassion they showed Mom in her final days.
Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00pm with a rosary to follow at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Cook-Walden Capital Parks 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
