Bessie Mae Prescott (Jones) Fennell

Bessie Mae Prescott (Jones) Fennell was born on August 7, 1941, in Alexandria, Louisiana to Sallie Doris Prescott. She moved to Austin, Texas with her mother and step-father, Dallas H. Jones, Sr. as a young child. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church in San Marcos, TX. She later rededicated her life to Christ as a member of St. John’s College Height Baptist Church.

She attended Old Anderson High School in Austin, TX and later moved to San Marcos, TX where she met and married Albert Fennell.

Her career was with MHMR as a MHMR Vocational Training Specialist where she worked with special needs client to help them learn life skills. After retiring from MHMR she took interest in her grandchildren’s education and landed a job with AISD at JJ Pickle Elementary.

Her entire life she exhibited great strength to overcome her adversities as she nurtured and cared for everyone she came in contact with. She loved the Lord and was very active in her church choir at St. John’s College Heights Baptist Church. She truly believed that her strength came from the Lord. She was the mother of five girls and she loved her girls with all her heart and gave everything to make life the best she could for them.

Her passing has brought great sadness to the hearts of all who knew her and she will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. Fennell (10/24/2003), daughter, Bennie Marie Jones (1/13/2005), stepfather, Dallas H Jones, Sr. (7/8/2006), grandmother, Bessie Harper Stone (6/19/1988), aunts Elma L Prescott, Estelle Hargrove (2/2018), Eddie Lee Van Buren (8/7/2006) and her godmother Bennie Mae Owens (7/26/2013).

Her legacy lives on as she is survived by her daughters: Brenda Hale (adopted), Jacqueline R. Jones and Angela A. Lewis ( Willie Lewis) of Austin, TX; Elizabeth F. Taylor (Kaigh J. Taylor) of Albuquerque, NM; Baby Honeycomb of Austin, TX; thirteen grandchildren: Walama Renee Jones, Caris M. M. Smith, Deondre D. Lott, Kendrick L. Fennell, Rebba S.L. Wolf (Kenneth Wolf), Territa Nuells, Jessica R. Harry, Jhulien R. Taylor, Jhaanai I. Taylor, Victor J Schexnayder, II, Nikolaus J. Schexnayder, and Mykell J Schexnayder; ten great-grandchildren: Kaylah P. Alexander, Kamryn P. Alexander, Damon L. Blackmon, Braylin West, Jacqueline “Jackie” West, Jaydah West, Kharmah Wolf, Jhireh A. Harry, Sincere J. Williams and Baby Justice Rae; her mother, Sallie D. Jones of San Marcos, TX; her siblings: Dallas H. Jones, Jr. (Judith “Judy” Jones) of Albuquerque, NM, Enos Jones (Angela Jones) of San Marcos, Kenneth Jones (Bettie Harrell-Jones) of Winterhaven, FL, Clifford Jones and Dennis Jones of San Marcos, TX her nephews and nieces: Uchenna Chukwuna, Michael Jones (Shawna Jones), Stephen Jones, Julian Jones, Kenneth A. Jones, Monique Jones, Shawn Kelly (Mack Kelly, Jr.), Contessa Smith (Leviticus Smith), Dynell Harrell (Tracy Harrell), Edward Jones and Crystal Jones and a host of great nephews, nieces and cousins.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral home located at 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s College Heights Baptist Church located at 7207 Carver Ave., Austin, Texas 78752.
